Internet is the devil

Postby Neneuche » Tue May 13, 2003 6:03 am

Ok, I needed to find a cool outfit reference for kids and did not really know what to look for, so I used the google image search.
I typed in "Teen Model". Of course, I expected to see some sex stuff, as the "barely legal" thing is very popular. But some of these are LITTLE KIDS POSING IN THEIR UNDERPANTSS!!!! Now, I am disgusted. This is plain child porn. There is one of these girls, she looks 10. I swear!
Just look for yourselves.
Sick.
images.google.ca/images?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&safe=off&q=teen+model&sa=N&tab=wi&meta=

There are dozens of these sites. They're really creepy and, for some reason, if you can pass them off as non-sexual (even though they seem insanely questionable), I guess it's considered okay. Most all of them are Canadian, so you tell me what that's about.

I'll stick to cos-play sites.

R.

I'm not even going to look. I don't need the police or CSIS showing up at my door with an arrest warrant and taking away my computer. I'd have nothing to work on!

And I doubt that most of the sites are Canadian. We have really stringent laws on that stuff too. They're probably from Quebec, but that doesn't count as Canadian. JK. No offense, but they seem to have their own set of laws in that place.

I saw a news special on this very thing a while ago. It's completely legal and done with the consent of the parents!!!! What these companies do is convince the children and their parents that this is a good resume builder for a modelling career and then take the pictures and post them on their sites. The news progam interviewed a modelling agency and the woman they talked to said there was no way that those shots would likely ever result in being offered professional work.

Another interesting thing: many of these sites are subscription sites. When the interviewer asked the site owner for basic demographic information, it became clear that a significant portion of them are men in their forties. And they send gifts to these girls. It blows my mind that this type of exploitation is sanctioned and that the parents are able and willing to cling to any deniability they can while socking away the money.

Dan Jacobson

SEQUENCE Director,
Comic Creators' Network

www.comiccreatorsnetwork.com

This is really sad. It is terrible that this stuff exists in such an easy-to-get format.
