White Stripes new one, and Linkin Park too....

Postby patrickg1 » Tue Apr 01, 2003 5:30 pm

Okay, so the past two weeks have been pretty good music wise. Last week I picked up the new Linkin Park album, I like it, it's got some cool sounds, and like any good one, it just gets better the more you listen to it. I wasn't a fan of these guys at first, but once more of their music was released, I started to really dig the sound they were putting out. I like a band that has alot of variety, and these guys definitely fit that bill.

Today I picked up the White Stripes new one, Elephant, and I haven't listened to the whole thing yet, but the first and last songs are fucking brilliant. I don't use that word (brilliant) often, but these two songs are definitely it

Anyone else pick these up?

Heh. You ever see the Stripes live, Jeff? How such a full rock sound could come out of a guitar and a drumkit, I'll never know. Really damn good.

Not a big Linkin Park fan either, but at least the rapper in this rock/rap act can actually rap. Most cannot (hi, Fred Durst).

R.

Edited by: HellboyOne at: 4/1/03 9:57:00 pm

Like I said, I wasn't much of a fan of Linkin Park when they were just becoming popular a couple years back, but after getting a listen at some of their stuff that wasn't just pointless screaming, it's actually really cool sounding music. They're able to achieve some pretty nice sounds, and can mix it up. I can see how alot of people wouldn't like them though.

I think the new Linkin Park album is amazing. The production on this one is insane, the atmospheric sounds, turntablism, self-made samples, and total distortion of sounds. Lots of experimentation on this one, playing with faster looping drumbeats, much more hip-hop elements than the first one. There's a really great dancy hip-hop beat with some chinese flute playing. Really good lyrically, lots of energy. Not to mention that the design of the box and the booklet is pretty spiffy. Mike the rapper and Chairman Hahn the DJ both graduated from art center and are pretty spiffy with spray cans and graff art as well as graphic design. Don't listen to much radio stuff, but these guys sucked me in
-Andrew

Didn't feel like going to Boston or New York to seen them. I don't think they played any shows closer to me.

Okay, so I've had this album for like two weeks now, and have gotten the chance to listen to it over and over again, and I've come to the conclusion that the white stripes are in the top 5 best musicians producing music right now. They're killing me with all these great songs, and the sheer repeat value of the album is amazing. I can't even pick a favorite song, it's that good. Truly a great album that's lost in time, because as much as I and many others like it, it doesn't seem like it'll ever be fully appreciated.

The White Stripes are the musical guest for the whole week on Conan O'Brien. I'm pretty sure its this week. Tuesday through Friday, Monday is always a repeat.

Here's a suggestion: The Thermals! They're a relatively new group signed to Sub-Pop records since February and one of my friends always confuses them for the White Stripes. As for Linkin Park...i really couldn't stand them from day one. I'll pass on Meteora.
