"Anyone know why this movie was rated "R"?

Was wondering the same thing. They could have toned it down just a tad bit and no one would have noticed and it would have been PG-13, probaly made more money.
I didnt miss tank, the guy that played his role was the narrator from Oz on HBO, he was good in the movie. Guy wanted more money, yeesh he was most easily replaced role from the first movie, some people need a dose of reality I guess.

Yeah...the actor who played Tank, apparently all his threatening calls to the production people were recorded and the transcripts were online for awhile. Pretty creepy stuff. I guess he thought he was crucial enough to the story to ask for more money. So much for that.

Oh...anytime people are punched and kicked in the head, it's an automatic R rating.

R.

"

That has to be a joke....right?

Quote:
The second half of the burly brawl was just sad and pathetic. Some of the worst animation i have seen in a long time.

I agree with the poor quality of much of the neo animation- and it's even more frustrating because they used the Neo cartoon when there wasn't any reason why they couldn't have used the real one- like the slo-mo shot right after the "he's doing the superman thing" comment, and the flight out of the exploding building. Save it for long shots, back shots. Anytime you see the face it kills it.

I don't know if the opening shot of Trinity and the agent falling through the window was digital, but it was one of the coolest things i've seen in a while.

And i'll be in the minority here: I think Keanu did an impressive job in the fight scenes- much more convincing than in the first movie.

Yeah, it was Shane. The MMPA are just jumpy fuckers nowadays. Especially since the first Matrix was one of the flicks blamed for that whole Colombine debacle. Because kids who shoot people can't just be crazy anymore.

R.

Ah, my favourite of the online debate strategies - the thinly-veiled accusation followed by "who, me? I didn't say anything, you must be reading too much into it..."

-C

www.cameron-stewart.com

Ah heck, I enjoyed it.

Its got some flaws--and the theatre I saw it at had some warbly sound that didn't help my hearing aids very much-so I missed out on some dialogue and thus some context.

Some parts were slow, but..........well, when it came to the action, I think that is what the core of this movie was to me.
Philosophy and religious connotations aside, this was a popcorn fest in the truest sense. The freeway sequence was a hoot, as was the burly fight with 101+ Agent Smiths.
There are times when I want to contemplate, and there's times when I want to watch stuff get blowed up real good.
Matrix Reloaded was more of the latter.
I missed some of the more purely cyber-punk-esque flavour of the first one--although there was some of it......

The rave sequence was........I dunno. I'm too old for raves and the whole thing seemed dopey to me.
Larry Fishburne ruled in the first flick and he still rules--Morpheus made the film fun.

The "Superman" stuff.................visually cool, but out of place. Almost seems like something that would short-change a proper Superman film itself. Even acknowledging it in this movie was a dumb idea........sets up too much audience familliarity when we see the same effects in the rumoured up-coming Superman movie(s) themselves. Aborts the surprise factor for that property, IMO
Wish the stuff had been visualized another way.
Have to agree with most here, first half was weak, second half was alot better paced and stronger story-wise.
This is not a movie I feel a need to analyze too deeply.......it crumbles like a handful of sand if you think about it too much.
Its trying hard to be deep, deeper than it probably needs or deserves to be--but at the same time, its not just shallow effects, stunts and pyro-work.
This movie was like reading a comic, with all the wild, dopey, clever spectacle one would expect from same and that is suiting me just dandy.

--Ken

Actually, I'm playing the "I'm too old for a meaningless verbal ping-pong battle with an oversensitive fella who's trying to diagnose me with the "who me" syndrome." It's been fun Cam, really it has.

-St0lle

Really? It was a great sci-fi flick.

If this were a movie seperate from the first one, people would be shitting their pants.

So many people are looking for that sensate rush that was given from the first one, but this was half sensate and half cerebral - like getting a blowjob from a librarian that would stop every 30 seconds to read you some Kierkaggard and Zen text.

IMO - this movie was superior to the first one in every capacity. I even re-watched the first one, and by comparison, there are parts in it that seem Hollywood cheezy - acceptable - but cheezy.

If you got bored by the movie, try reading more, not eating so much candy with red-food coloring, and don't watch so much MTV.
