spiritual warfare

Postby Fact26 » Tue Jun 03, 2003 3:34 pm

I was at Penny farthing press the other day looking for potential victims of harassment (I'm sending out submissions packages again) On thier list of title genres they don't want to waist thier time on was a genre called "spiritual warefare." All I could think is, "gee that could be almost anything", well...maybe not but I don't know what that is. Can anyone out there give an example or two of some "spiritual warefare" titles.

spiritual warfare

I think they're talking about the very, VERY tiresome "heaven vs. hell"-type storylines that are so abundant in comics these days.. you know, like weak Spawn rip-offs and such..
(at least, that's what I understand "spiritual warfare" to mean..)

Spiritual Warfare usually refers to prayer, and angels and demons fighting each other.

Frank E. Peretti is a well known name in this market for novels. Not so sure about comics. Archangels, a mini-series from a couple years back would probably be in said category.
~Marty M
www.ihorace.com

Would Hellboy be consisdered spiritual warfare? Would a paranormal title (not necessarily HB) be consisdered spiritual? I guess.

I just love uninformed claptrap...And we don't care for the term religious putz/nutball...Try "believers saved from spending an eternity in torment , where the worm never dies and the fire's never quenched."

I stand by "religious putz/nutball" when refering to Bob Larson.

I mean, c'mon...........exorcisms on the RADIO???

Anyone with a brain knows how EASY that crap can be faked when the primary sense "visual" is removed from the equation. Make some moans, some roars, spout off some curses and incantations............need one go on??

Larson loves ( needs) a stupid audience to keep his business running and his phone-in types aren't known for their college degrees..........Larson aims squarely for the lowest common denominator.

The litany of shamless money begging from that fellow taints anything his "ministries" ever did. Fully 30% ( or MORE) of his "broadcasts" are solcititations for funds or for his products.
Everytime I went to church, the tithe dish was passed around and that was it........the preachers never rattled on about needing bucks like Larson does.

Bob's a putz, heck, he's not even a very GOOD putz.

And as for religion--don't get me wrong, religion is a very necessary thing and something I support. I won't denigrate a person of legit faith and mores because I understand the power of Faith and Morality. And that ain't no "uninformed claptrap".

And I'll end my rants right here because this can sooooooooo easily veer off into a flamefest. I think the initial question's been answered anyway.

--Ken

Just listened to Bob Larson exorcise demons that this kid acquired via a martial arts school and pornography. Scary.

I'm always amazed by these kooky ministries and their spiritual cohorts that sell potency herbs and miracle diets. These entertainers-cum-vendors cleverly don't solve their consumer's problems, transfer the blame to an external source, give out placebos, tell the victim to try harder and when they inevitably fail, demand more cash for better placebos -- creating a perpetual cycle. It's a unique business practice and is remarkably effective with its target demographic.

PS: Anyone know some venture capitalists to help me start e-exorcism.com or exorcism-by-email.com? Oh, wait. I forgot. Our potential customers don't know how to use computers. Rats. Guess I'll have to go back to hawking healing magnets on TV.
:: angstorm.com :: updated June 8, 2003 ::
(avatar-icon by jimmymcwicked)

spiritual warfare applies exclusively to christian propaganda. Have you ever seen the fictional books about the end of the world, "Left Behind"? Hell boy or even books about heaven and hell do not apply. the books only apply when the author is a christian and is trying to get people to believe something by writing it. The reason christians do this, I used to be involved with christianity, is because they believe god gave them a gift and they should apply it to every facit of their lives. Christians I have found for the most part are very decietful and only want to have anything to do with you for the sole purpose of telling you about Jesus. It is for this backhanded trickery that I think people don't want to be a part of this type of genre. It would be like if Hitler made comic books with hidden messages meant to manipulate people into believing soemthing.

Christians deceitful? That's a new one. Apologies for the dumb brethren.

As per "propaganda" some do make it such. But since the Christian believes in a Heaven, a Hell, and people having souls, they believe the outcome can be affected through prayer - therefore creating "spiritual warfare" - the battle for ones soul.

Again apologies for meeting some duplicitous nut.
~Marty M
www.ihorace.com

Well at the expense of making myself sound dumb with all the philosophy going on, if you're looking for examples in comics for heaven vs hell where archangels and archdemons replace superheroes, then "Heirs of Eternity" is a good choice. It's new from some independent guys through Image.
