Super cool Rick and Anjin! I'll pick it up for sure! I know you're both proud of the publishing factor. I would be too! We all should support each other on the boards as much as we can so we can continue to do what we love!

Oops...Hella cool seems more appropriate in this case.

Edited by: digitaldreammachine at: 5/29/03 3:34:53 pm

Slick Rick

Postby Obi 1 Shinobi » Thu May 29, 2003 1:51 pm

Congrats to Rick and Anjin! You deserve it!

I don't know what I'll think of the HB piece or whether I'll feel it's worthy of being published. It is possible I will agree with Mr. Sensitive. But I think that's not so important, everyone's entitled to their own opninions on art. It's hard to argue whether someone's art has value or merit or whatever. What I can say is some of how Rick got the pinup is through networking. Yes, he got the job because he talks to Scott and Mike. They know who he is. They know his love for Hellboy. And that's not a negative. That's how ALL professions go. Despite having spending some of his time alone in his room with a pen and a pad, like all of us, he also knows how to socialize and interact with other people very well. Most people think he's a "delight" to have as a moderator. People like to work with people they get along with. So Rick's interpersonal skills got him the chance Mr. Sensitive probably won't, since he's just proven that sometimes he lacks tact. In a serious way. Of course, once the door was open, Rick would have to have a high level of skill and talent to get in the book, so yeah he's a good artist. Whether he's better than Cameron, Kirby, Kirk Cameron, Toby, Toth, Carl Sagan, whoever, is up to an individual to decide. Personally, I'll decide after I see more of the puzzle pieces.

Oh, and I never said congrats on the Hawaiin Dick piece. Big up your chest, Rick

Rick & Anjin - Congratulations on your achievement, I know this means a lot to both of you. Given this publication's high standards and your excellent work on the ballpoint soldier collaboration, I'm confident that this'll kick some major ass -- and if it doesn't, I want both of your addresses so I can go over there to kick your asses.

Jimmy - I'm afraid you've been demoted to Assistant Jerk. Remember, with hard work and practice, you might regain the trophy.

Toonimator, et al - I often see people here mentioning ass-kissing of well-known artists. Can you please explain why anyone would compliment someone here for any reason other than genuinely enjoying their work? Sorry, I'm kinda na?ve.
:: angstorm.com :: updated May 25, 2003 ::

trigger- I believe u r missing e point here(obi's) He is not trying to say Rick is Kirk Cameron, or any of e artist he'd mention. His point, my boy, (I believe) is tat itz too early to judge Rick's pin-up since we've not even see it yet. We may like it or may not but tat, we can decide after we've seen more of the puzzle pieces.... tat is e point

Rainboy - Trigger is making a joke. Kirk Cameron is an actor from an old television show, and the phrase is a take-off on a line from a debate between politicians Lloyd Bentsen and Dan Quayle: "I knew Jack Kennedy. Jack Kennedy was a friend of mine. And you, sir, are no Jack Kennedy."

It's a cultural thing.
-C

www.cameron-stewart.com

Lloyd Bentsen? Kirk Cameron? A 1988 Vice Presidential Debate? ...

LOL man, I'm impressed Trigger.

And here I thought I would go over people's heads in making a reference to the old ad slogan ("Is it live or is it Memorex") in another thread.

Good crowd here....

Hmm, maybe I'll use that "That's a one spicy meatball" joke soon.

Wow. I really thought that 'sensitive' guy was joking, but I guess he isn't. I agree with these other guys that those comments were totally uncalled for.

I'll also echo a congratulations to Rick and Anjin on their accomplishment. This is great news, and I can't wait to see the pin-up...
________________
www.boltcity.com

Or maybe I wasn't joking. Maybe Kirk Cameron is one of those actors who paint, like Stallone or Matin Mull and to a lesser extent, Mrs. Popadopalus.
