quick ones...

Postby spaceman » Tue Dec 08, 2009 2:57 pm

Hey everybody...

I discovered this forum couple of weeks ago, and I just love this place, so inspiring!

I was wondering if people can give me some feed backs on my drawings... these are mostly 30 sec to 5 min poses...

Thank you very much

Hi,

I'm not incredibly qualified to give criticism. But for what its worth, I think that your heads are sometimes not positioned naturally. They often look like the neck would be at an awkward angle in order to put the head where it is. The rest of the body looks quite natural, I like the way you slightly exaggerate the curves. But like I said, I look out for your placement and angle of the heads. If I were better I'd try to sketch over what I mean, but I'm not sure I could do better.

Try and be a little more refined with your contours. See if you can slow down and draw a long curving line from top to bottom without any breaks in the line.

I personally dig the sense of emotion you're putting into these.

You asked if there is anything to watch out for... I don't really see anything technical that you should be aware of. Maybe you could play with lost and found edges more, even complete burnout contours on the light side of the body...
But all I can really say for sure is watch out for not practicing, Just keep on drawing!

Thanks again for the kind responds...

Im not aiming for a perfect drawing on the detail level, im trying to push the pose and get some emotion out of the model as much as i can... but yeah, i gotta keep on drawing and drawing... got so much to learn...man!

Keep thinking about how the whole figure connects. You are working on your shapes but need to fill those shapes with form. On the human figure this =anatomy. keep going you have a strong start!

Wow! Mike Mattesi!

Man, Im a huge fan of your work, and your books are so inspiring...

Thank you so much for your kind feedback... Im an animator, coming mostly from 3D computer background, but since i graduated from the classical animation course at VFS, my eyes have open to the whole realm of 2D and figure drawing... to me, its more about the pose and the motion rather than draw it correct anatomically. but i assume that in order to achieve a convincing drawing, i must dig in into the anatomy realm..., its just a bit hard for someone with not much experience with drawings... but im working on it... and on the same side im reading Walt Stantchfield books and they blow my mind!

Thank you (:

thanks spaceman..nice to hear that the books are having a positive affect on you. Keep drawing and look at the second chapter in both books. This chapter will lead to more and more convincing shapes.
