WESTERN HEROES : 1- John Wayne

Postby Maëster » Wed Apr 11, 2012 9:11 am

Hi guys (and girls), it's a long time. I just want to share some of the stuff I'm now working on, and I thought we could start with John Wayne (some of you may remember that one). Just sketches until now, but I'll work on it...

I've noticed that those caricatures had some visits, so, know that critics and comments are welcome...

Chouette ! Du nouveau par ici !
Sorry, you'd probably liked international comments here, but well... here I am!
Those studies are really great. Of course, they all look like John, but in terms of graphic design, I really like the third one, with that geometric shape, though the likeness is maybe not the best (should be reworked a little bit in the details). The last one has also a cool design, I like the render of your pen strokes, but unfortunately, it reminds Kruger's Wayne in the position... But I know it's totally a coincidence
Are those drawings made for a special project?

Thank you all for your nice comments.

To David11 : As you said, the problem is to do something NOT looking like Krüger's or Mulatier's work on John Wayne. And I can tell that's not easy... Still working on it.

And yes, this is for a special project. A book about "western heroes" with some other caricaturists I'll publish next october.
With Achdé, Jean-Marc Borot, Thierry Coquelet, Charles Da Costa, Thomas Lebeltel and Mulatier himself ! Working hard on that, and I think it will be great... Go and see their websites.

Here are some other sketches... Hope you'll like them :
