Great Scots - David McCallum (7th October)

Postby em... » Sat Jan 31, 2009 6:39 pm

I've had the idea mulling around in my head for a while to do a themed caricature thread of fellow Scottish people.

To start it off, the current (but not for much longer) Doctor Who, David Tennant.

great exaggeration, and really wonderful colors. I'm not that familiar with him, but he does seem to make for a good caricature. it's interesting to compare to your portrait of him.

cool idea for a series,i just hope there's a Connery caricature pending.

Oh, that's brilliant EM.

I too fully expect to see a Connery,
and a Lieutenant Commander Montgomery 'Scottie' Scott (But not James Montgomery Doohan, he's Canadian. Can you caricature a character without doing the actor?)

And James Clerk Maxwell, Scottish scientist and probably among the 10 greatest minds to ever touch physics.

Fantastic,em. BTW, do you mind if I ask what size you make your art at? Is it around this size, or like many percent larger?

Great work em. Great contrast to your avatar version of him.

I hope there's a Billy Connelly somewhere in your lineup.

Thanks, everyone.

bangalore_monkey - Connery's going to be a difficult one because he's been done so often. Maybe I'll do him from Zardoz or something. :D

el nino grande - I was thinking about including fictional Scots, and maybe even non-Scots who have played real life Scots (Mel Gibson, Liam Neeson), so Scotty is a possibility, as is Maxwell.

IMForeman - The initial sketch and blocking in (which I'll be posting on my blog soon) is done at twice the size of what you see here, then I bump it up to an A4 size at 300dpi for the final rendering.

NoriRoll - Rod Stewart isn't really Scottish, he just wants to be, but I might include him anyway.

krisvahl - Of course. I couldnae miss oot the big yin.

I'm told he's the celebrity that looks most like me... without the goatee, of course. (Not that anyone would let a movie camera near my face, for fear part of it might be recorded on film.)

This seems sort of 90's video game-ish with its big-eyed toon construction and its purple-y metallic colors. I enjoy it.

Andries, Chris - Thank you, gents.

Ian - Matt Smith does have a good caricature face, but I think I might wait until I've seen him in action.

There may be another Who appearing in this thread.
