You're right, Steev. It seems so few people post anymore. But then, I have barely posted in months.

Thanks for the kind words Steev.

On the the ghost town that DB seems to have become

- It appears that all the cool kids have left the playground over the last year and not told the other kids where they have gone ;) I for one really miss how lively it was here and the abundance of great work you would find here. Without DB I wouldn't have known about Rodolphe Guenoden, Bill Pressing, Cheeks, Evan Shaner... the list goes on and on. This has been a great community, lead to real friendships and been an excellent place to display and get feedback on your work. More than anything else I miss the monthly drawing jams.

It is a real shame and I miss what DB was :(

Yes, it's a shame what's happened in the past while. Personally, I don't post as much as I used to because I just don't have as much time.

Although, I don't think it's just the DB that's on the decline. I've noticed participation falling on other forums I am a member of, and more and more of the posts that are there are by "showboaters" - people who just post their works in their threads, without commenting on anyone else's work and frequently not even thanking others who comment on their work.

As to the Monthly Jams in this section, I did them for the best part of six years, but they stopped being fun. They originated from a couple of impromptu Jams between about 4 of us (on the subject of Spider-man and Daredevil's respective girlfriends and/or wives) and then we made it a regular event. In the beginning, there was a friendly competitiveness to it, with a lot of banter between the participants and they'd run to sometimes 20+ pages. Again, though, it eventually became largely people just posting without commenting and it lost its spark.

It's always been my policy to post much more in others' threads than in my own, and always take time to thank those who give me comments. It's the only way to retain a "community" aspect to a forum, and I think that's what's been lost lately.

I'm going to make an effort to post more, and if others follow suit, maybe we can attempt restore the place somewhat.

Marc great additions to this continuing spectacular thread dude! The Super girl is amazing. She really feels like a Super "GIRL" :D I love Valkyries face too. The young Mutant chics also rock. My only crit is maybe to extend Red Sonja's legs a tad bit more so they dont gets cut off at the knees to abruptly with that crop. As always though Marc some great stuff man!!

As for the changing community here at DB I agree, Like Euan i have been real busy the last 2 years with work and family so its made it difficult to visit regularly. I never seem to have time to post to the JAMs which i feel very guilty about. When i post new work I always make a point of first going through as many threads as i can afford the time for and reviewing them and posting comments, then post my new piece. I do that because i agree with Euan that it seems like a lot of people post there own stuff but than dont comment on others and I think thats wrong. One thing i will say though is that I have been a member of DB for 8 years and it has always gone through ups and downs in terms of people posting and hanging out. My advice is to keep posting , keep commenting and it will get good again. :D

Hey Kirk, thanks for the kind words and Euan for such an erudite reply to my quiet moan ;) It seems to have had it's upside in that we are seeing more posts and the people have begun to comment on others work again - hooray!!

HI Marc,

Just wanted to echo the sentiments of a few of the guys here. You'd work has a light painterly quality not seen out in there much.

I'm fond of your Trazan because it shows the difference between a finished B/W piece and an unfinished uncolored piece. Few people seem to know that these days lol. True B/W work is a lost art. I especially like the outline of the trees in the BG to adds detail and keep clarity.

As far as Em's comments, I think a spare few of us could really bring life to this place if we follow the old ways. Make it a 2 for one deal and for every one piece we post comment twice on a different thread lol.

I remember coming across this place YEARS ago and being blown away by the work being posted. I felt honored when I'd post something that got good art school style crit.

For the record the most fun I ever had here was guest admining the Mighty Mouse Jam hell like 6 years ago. That was the Funk.

I'm up for rehab if you all are...

Hi Manny. Thanks for your kind words and I'm in full agreement on the 'twofor' plan too :)

Here's something new which was drawn for one of DA's Daily Sketch Challenges today - it was super quick but I think it captures something of John Constantine.

Awesome Namor. You can feel the power as he bursts from the water.

Great Constantine too. He appears to have a scar - does he have that in the comics now? I haven't read Hellblazer in years.

Thank you Euan - it's most appreciated.

I haven't read Hellblazer for around five years either so I thought I'd better look at the new stuff before doing the dsc and it turns out he does now have scar! I have no idea where he got it - answers on a postcard please ;)

What a great thread. I love the way you draw women -- very strong, yet feminine.

Carter Beats The Devil

Postby monkey marc » Fri Oct 08, 2010 1:32 pm

Does a magician count in this section? Anywhoo here's a mock cover for Glen David Gold's Carter Beats The Devil that I am working on with one of my Graphic Design degree students - again this is all digital as I'm on vacation and I have no scanner to use.

I miss my brush :(
