Character Jam - Wonder Woman

Postby em... » Sun Feb 12, 2006 4:43 pm

This character jam is dedicated to one of the true icons of comics - Wonder Woman - created in 1941 by writer William Moulton Marston (the inventor of the lie detector machine) and artist Harry Peter.

Character Info
Sculpted by her mother, Queen Hippolyta, from clay and given life by the gods of Olympia, Princess Diana was the only child born on the island of Themyscira, the home of the immortal female Amazons.
Secretly taking part in a contest to find the paradise island's greatest warrior, Diana was named the victor and sent into the world of men as Wonder Woman, a champion to defend the planet against the schemes of the war god, Ares.

TV Theme Song - http://www.tvtunesonline.com/wavs/Wonder_Woman.wav (sing along with the lyrics)

Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman.
All the world's waiting for you,
and the power you possess.

In your satin tights,
Fighting for your rights
And the old Red, White and Blue.

Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman.
Now the world is ready for you,
and the wonders you can do.

Make a hawk a dove,
Stop a war with love,
Make a liar tell the truth.

Wonder Woman,
Get us out from under, Wonder Woman.
All our hopes are pinned on you.
And the magic that you do.

Stop a bullet cold,
Make the Axis fall,
Change their minds, and change the world.

Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman.
You're a wonder, Wonder Woman.

and mine - a quick one to start, which didn't work as well as I'd have liked, but I'll have something better later in the week:

Sweat picture em. I love the rougher inking style you've used these last two jams. Very moody.

Hey Em,

Great idea for a JAM. She truly is a classic and an icon. Your picture is quite good and in a different style then I've seen from you, perhaps because it was just a quick sketch.

porcelain, You have a very clean and simple style but its very interesting to look at. Very nice.

Here's a picture I did of Wonder Woman 10 years ago!! This one was a Golden Age version of her. Its one of my earliest attempts at colouring a picture using Photoshop.

Hey everyone - sorry about the last jam, I've just been straight up against the wall with deadlines for the last two weeks - hopefully I'll be around more frequently. Anyway, here is an older drawing of WW - maybe I'll be able to contribute something more recent later this week.

Kick_ass drawings here, man! especially em...'z shadowcasting and porcelain'z ever-so simple but kick_ass drawingZ.

Here's mine. Had this idea waaaaaaay back in 2004 when I was livin' in Newcastle, OZ; when I heard that Jennifer Hawkins (who also lives in Newcastle, OZ) became Mz. Universe. Shocked to see someome_as hot_as this living here, so I turned her into Wonder Woman. -yup, crazy idea- but u try studyin' architecture and see how screwed up you mind gets when you get excited lookin' at buildings more than lookin' at hot chicks!!!

AAAnywayZZZ, I "comixterize' her face from a FHM shoot.

Enjoy!

Em- Cool Wonder Woman I like your use of shadows on her.
Petersen- Your Wonder Woman is HOT!!

Here's a drawing I did for a friend. Sorry that it's grainy and a little hard to see, the only thing I had was my camera phone at the time. I'll see if my friend will take a better picture of it soon.

This is my quick head study--i love the idea of wind blowing the hair in strange directions.

Side note: I am rotten with Photoshop. When i lay my pencils down on the paper i think things look fine but when i scan them in, translating the info is very difficult. I try to up the contrast levels becuase i draw with hard pencil but it doesnt seem to look right. Any Photoshop tips (other than inking the piece directly then scanning)?[/img]

For my first two times participating in these jams, the last couple topics have been excellent for motivating me to attempt characters I'd never drawn before. This one especially, since I always need practice drawing the womens.

em...-That's excellent. I love how she's coming out of the shadows, dukes up. It's nice to be reminded that Wonder Woman is a hardass, since it seems I usually see her in more pin up oriented poses (though I certainly don't object to those  ). Awesome!

porcelain-That's a fabulous style you have, you knocked yours out of the park. If you made trading cards or something out of comic characters, I would only buy about a thousand of them.

untamo1-10 years ago?! Damn, I don't know if I've saved anything from 10 days ago. :D Really cool golden age approach.

Petersen-Yours are all well done, but I love that first one. I wouldn't even know where to begin something like that, most impressive.

GentleGiant-Ha! The "W" tattoo and the look on her face are great!

CAL-I have no idea who Jennifer Hawkins is, so I'm just going to assume you nailed the likeness. Nice work dude.

wheels9696-Cool head study! I wouldn't mess with her when she's wearing that expression.

RodGuen-Right about here is where I crapped my pants. That is insane! Desktopped.

harddraw-Nice! That's very reminiscent of the show, and I love the classic bullet deflection pose. Great work!

Darren M A Calvert-YES!! I was hoping someone would go for the scub suit! Man, that rocks so damn hard.

So yeah, I tried giving this a shot, but I took some liberties with her outfit, and I think she looks more like Wonder Girl than Wonder Woman  :
