Been a-lurking, now a-postin'!

Here's my quckie for the Stranger. This is the first digital painting I've done in quite a while, have to do something while recovering from the flu.

There's some really good pix in this jam so far, really like them.

Thank you everyone who said something nice.
It's a pretty average image and I certainly wouldn't have been so kind if anyone else had posted it.

Elliotanimated: thank you very much, Elliot: I really appreciate your comment.
visual myriad: awesome illo, Daniel: great atmosphere there :D Along with the
small thumbnail you should get also a larger image linked from my server. Let me know if
you still don't see it.
em...: grazie mille, fratello :)
JoeBun: I don't see a lot of likeness with Delon, but that is still a cool take on PS :D
My fav is the color version
youngatart: that's awesome, Jay :D love both the version, with a slightly
preference for the interdimensional door (you know I like the stars ;))
cartoonM!ke: you should get to paint more often, since it looks you already are at a
good point there :D Not fond of that digital BG thou ;)
Hack: Thank you, Robert :) and your new piece is freaking good: love that brush
strokes of yours :D

Hack - You're a hard dude to follow Robert. Awesome Lovecraftian (is that a word?) demon. Way to start it off.
em... - ......and that's how you follow Hack. Love the eyes and desaturated color palette. Classic Phantom Stranger.
Cobblepot - Great, unique take on PS. Very film-noir.
jokerman725 - Good job. His face has a little "Kirby" to it.
Elliotanimated - Killer beastie (literally). Nice Tim Burton look to it and the defiant look on PS's face is perfect.
TheRonin - I've never seen him smoke before and now I realize, he was always meant to. Not a smoker myself but some characters look so "right" with a cig. Awesome once again Francesco.
visual myriad - Great pic man! Your use of colors and light are just excellent. If you host one of these, it's gotta be like, Thor or Johnny Thunder's Thunderbolt or Black Lightening or..........
JoeBun - Cool take on PS. Great brushstrokes.
youngatart - Awesome moody piece. Can't make up my mind which one I prefer.
cartoonM!ke - Really nice job on his medallion. Gotta say that I'm with Francesco though. Lose the textured background.
Hack - Your brushwork is just mesmerizing Robert. Great concept here. I love how "average joe" he looks.

Great stuff all around so far. I really gotta get rollin' on my piece. :)

JoeBun - It's difficult to choose between the two (they're both great), but i think I prefer the coloured version marginally; youngatart - Very atmoshperic, and I definitely prefer the "door" version; cartoonM!ke - I'm not keen on the texture background (it detracts somewhat from the figure), but there's some great work on the rendering of the different materials (the gold of his medallion is very impressive); Hack - As if the current version wasn't fedora-and-trenchcoat-y enough for you, you present us with the even more so original

Thanks to everyone for all the great responses for my piece (Youngatart, you were right. Some shadow on his forehead does help alot!). I'm glad that so many other talented artists like my rendition. Though it's funny, everyone seems to like the color version, but I prefer the black and white. But what do I know? And yeah, I guess he doesn't look much like Delon, now that I compare it to the reference I used. Ah well, at least it looks like the Stranger!

Thanx for the feedback and crit everyone!

Here's a version with a new bg. Francesco and Troy are right, so much better with a "simpler" bg.

later,

TheRonin: Thanks, my friend.
troyboy: Thanks so much, Troy. Can't wait to see what you come up with.
em... Oh, it can never be too fedora-and-trenchcoat-y for me. Thanks.

Just a weird little doodle done on a scrap of bristol:

Hack- you are one bad mo-fo! I can?t believe you can just whip this stuff out!
Em- I really dig the softness of your drawing. I think it?s pencils colored on a computer, but if I didn?t know any better, I?d venture to say it was done in pastels ... way cool.
Cobblepot- I think the trenchcoat is much more mysterious and darker than a silly cape/cloak, but that?s just me.
Elliotanimated- I like the sparing use of color on this otherwise dark piece. It has a much more sinister feel and nightmare aspect than if it had been left in greytones like the rest of the piece.
Francesco-your harsh contrasts always make me feel silly for being so conservative with my ink, it?s like I?m afraid to really lay the pen or brush down. I strive for a similar effect but always fall short because I somehow think I?m going to ruin the picture. Yeah, and I really like the solid shadow of the cigarette smoking profile too.
Visual Myriad - that energy ball is so intense. I think your colors add so much to this piece, I think it?s great you went the extra mile to add them in.
Joe Bun- I like the simplicity and harsh contrast. How do you do that classic dot pattern? Is it some sort of filter, or do you meticulously place each one? I feel like a fool for even asking. (I think I like it better as a black and white than as a colored piece ... it?s that dot pattern, I just love it)
YoungAtArt- I like these pieces in conjunction with one another. I?m not too familiar with the character himself, but I get this feeling he is stepping through doorways into other dimensions. If that was the intent of posting them side by side, I?m impressed.

Well, even though I'm not too familiar with the character, I'm all of a sudden very excited to contribute my own post. Hopefully I can get it finished and posted before everyone else moves on to the next jam. I've got some catching up to do! :D

I'm significantly happier with this one.
I renounce my original offering, yet leave it for all to see as a monument to my failure..
