This is Merriman Lyon, from Susan Cooper's excellent Dark Is Rising sequence of fantasy novels. I wrote some thoughts about them here, if you're interested.

Anyone else read these?

A few of the many villains of Dick Tracy...

A couple more characters from the Psychonauts game. These are just way too fun to draw!

I told you I couldn?t stop drawing these Psychonauts characters (designed by the excellent Scott Campbell). This time we have two of the main villains of the game and Lily, the pseudo-girlfriend of the main character, Raz.

Ok, I think I got the Psychonauts bug out of my system for awhile. Above you can see Linda, the supposedly horrible monster that lurks within the lake at the psychic camp in the game. When you go inside her head, you discover that she really is more scared of you than you of her, as you become a giant Godzilla-like creature that is terrorizing the peaceful citizens of Lungfishopolis.

At our last sketch night, we drew each other as classic monsters. Here's my version of my friend Randy Rustin as Frankenstein's monster...

One of my students and I are having a drawing challenge. He printed off reference photos of three actors and we?re both going to draw each of them as zombies. First up is Jon Heder as the immortal Napoleon Dynamite. Stay tuned for a couple more?

Tigers have got to be my favorite animal to paint/draw. Those angular stripes and the simple colors are just so graphically pleasing. This is an attempt to watercolor really loosely and then go in with a brush pen fairly tight over that. The other day I just got the urge to paint something and had tremendous fun with this piece!

The fun you had shows! The tiger watercolor images are fantastic! I like that there's no hard outline and the colors and patterns define the shape. You have great control over the watercolor. It's very skillfully rendered and looks so effortless. Great job!

I?m excited to announce that our new collection of sketches, Sketchings #3, is now available! While the first two issues each focused on a single artist?s work, what?s great about this issue is that the emphasis is on collaborations between Matt Meyers, Dusty Roberts, and I. There are several ?creature jams? (including the cover) where different artists took turns drawing different parts of one character and then one artist inked the whole thing. There are three jam comics (improvisational stories), including ?Goblins Hate Fairies? and ?Sushi Bar? which you might have already seen on the Random Ink site. And there are many pieces that feature one artist inking the work of another. In addition, we threw some other fun stuff in there, like the time we drew each other as zombies.

You can preview and order a copy anytime!

Easily one of my favorite animated films from the last few years, Kung Fu Panda is full of so much fun energy and great character design. Master Oogway here would have to be my favorite from that film. I really enjoyed how they portrayed him as both frail and strong at the same time. This was a blast to draw.
