My take on Willow...
Think I need to fix the foot on the left, but it was fun doing this.

An updated version of the comic character. Older, ‘evilier’. :P

Ok, apparently TOO evil, so I adjusted the original...

Halloween Poster 2011

Postby SpaceyHD » Tue Sep 13, 2011 8:12 pm

Here's the WIP for the 13 Nights of Halloween poster. It's a celebration in Salem, Oregon and I usually include the 'Golden Man', a statue from atop their state capital building. For some reason I've had the Crypt Keeper on my mind, so that's what rolled out this year. :P

Crits and compliments welcome. I have to finish it up soon, so I'll curse my mistakes, but I like to learn things.

I have no idea. It has a beard. Made of boobs. Terrifying.

A few new swatches up on the blog:

Here's a stupid little one. I completely realized I drew the wrong thing halfway through, but I had this character in my head already, so I just powered through it.

I love the diversity of your work, it's all very solid. On that last catwoman, which is awesome btw, I feel you could improve it very easily by changing the line where her back meets her shoulder on the left. If it curved slightly and would end just a fraction to the right I geuss it would make her even sexier...

Great work, man!

I can totally see what you're saying about that line. Thanks!

Thanks for the compliment as well. I tend to not have a defined 'style' I suppose. I'm still searching for my voice I guess. :|

I did an internship with Daan Jippes (comic artist and former story artist, I believe there is a thread about him in the comics section) he taught me not to be too concerned with style. Your personal style is not something you have to look for, it is something that slowly develops from your work and your influences.

That was great advice, I wish I had learned that earlier on. I have spend years trying to create my personal style, where I should have just focussed on improving my drawing in genereal.

(it is rather funny that Jippes himself, is actually quite well known for being able to work in a lot of different styles.)

Practice - Photo Paint

Just working on my smoothness of painting. I think I was over-reaching by picking such a weird lighting angle, it was actually compromising my layout of proportions for some reason. but I kept redrawing until I got to this. I have a habit of 'playing it safe' when it comes to extreme foreshortening, or shadows. Something I hope to break myself of. :P

Crits and comments welcome and as always thanks for checking it out.

A drawing for a friend who just started working out a lot. :P Tried a quicker looser style with this one. Proportions were weird, but I think the lines were definitely more expressive than usual.
