CTN Animation Expo, November 20-22

Postby CosmicPencil » Thu Sep 24, 2009 12:11 am

I know this a bit away, but I am planning on attending this and have never been to it.
It is in Burbank, CA from November 20-22 at the Marriott Convention Center.
Guests include: Harald Siepermann, Don Bluth, Mike Mignola and many more!
More info at http://www.CTNANIMATIONEXPO.com

Anyone ever been to it and has any words of advice?
Personally I am attending this expo because I am planning on relocating to California within a reasonably amount of short time (I was hoping by the time of the convention, but it now looks like Spring or early Summer 2010) and am looking to find a job in the animation field.

I too would like information about this. I really would like to attend and try to find employment in the field but to get down there is going to be expensive. :(

Is this just a meet and greet with a drop off for your stuff or do they actually recruit at this event? I would like to know before I spend what very little money I have to get down there.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

This is the Creative Talent Network's first year hosting this event -

Based on the people hosting and attending the event I'm sure it will be a huge success.

i'm having a hard time telling from the website...but what exactly is this event? it certainly appears to be pretty great, and I can practically walk there so it seems idiotic to not attend for at least one day with so many talented folks in one place

Drugs,

I am not 100% sure, but I am sure it is related to the animation industry (all stages of it) and there is a list of scheduled events and lectures if that would help. I don't exactly know how Mignola fits into all of it, but I'll be interested in sitting in on that lecture.

I know that I am staying at the Marriott from Friday-Sunday night and will be leaving Monday morning and am highly looking forward to this convention, just kind of wanted to know some info about this before going.

Somewhere I had seen the prices for the convention (the three day pass is $125, although there is a code to get 10% off) I think I had seen the information about cost and what not at characterdesign.blogspot.com

I hope you are attending Paul. I still have a ton of questions I would like to ask you...

Matt, we'll definitely need to meet up! We'll have to have a bar night or sketch session of some sort while this is going on with all the people that are gonna be around

Definitely Drugs! I remember a while back wanting to get you a beer some time, but never really had the opportunity.

A sketch session would be awesome! Last time I was in Burbank, Kir was trying to fix something up that fell through (that and SDCC exhausted me and was unable to make the sketch session that night).

Paul- I hope that reply means that you will be attending.

CTN-X is sounding like my new SDCC....only with less crowds.

Hey, if you want a discount to the event use this code when registering: 34X09

This is shaping up to be THE animation event of the year. Plenty of exhibitions, panels and companies looking to recruit.. I always get people asking me how to break into animation - this might be a shortcut to getting the right people to look at your stuff and I'm hoping it'll be helpful in landing a gig or two myself.

Twisted- I am planning on doing that in a little bit. I am talking to a few friends who work in animation to find out what they think are my stronger pieces.

Steve- Thanks for the heads up! That is EXACTLY what I wanted to find out about this. I've always enjoyed SDCC, but it's a bit limited for exposure to talk to animation companies (unless you walk the floor and talk to people who are currently working for animation companies, which btw thank you Paul for taking some time out of your busy con time and talking to me and giving me some further insight).

I do hope to meet more people in the animation industry and hoping that this convention will give me a good shove in the right direction.

It's tomorrow people!

I'm pretty sure my discount code is still usable (go up a couple of posts).

Here's the link to the web-site.

I will be staying at the Marriott (since I am flying there in less than 7 hours from now).

This'll be my first time and I'll be sure to try to take some pictures and will probably give the lowdown either here or on my blog.

Looking forward to this (hence the reason for not being asleep yet).
