Illustrator Sydnei SmithJordan in New York Exhibition
The Eye of the Beholder ,Oil on Canvas, 42" x 36"
Rising up from a tumultuous childhood, Sydnei Smith Jordan has channeled her pain and strife into a powerful and imaginative art form. In a distinctive style brimming with technical prowess, Smith Jordan?s paintings deal with the essential facets of humanity such as religion, culture, sex, and politics, exploring how they relate to and define the individual. Employing a limited palette, her works provide an immediacy of expression, while beckoning the viewer to examine them deeper. Figures and faces confront the audience, peering out to unabashedly display their fundamental character. With the same rigor that she investigates society, Smith Jordan daringly delves into the inner regions of herself. ?I reach deep into all that is true in myself and my unconscious mind; be they experience, dreamscapes or past.? Also known for her illustrative work, Smith Jordan studied Fine Art at the College of Design, Art, and Architecture at Santa Monica College and earned her Master?s Degree at the Rhode Island School of Design. She lives and works in California.
