SDCC07 - !SESSION! - SAT July 28th

Postby olmanic » Tue Feb 06, 2007 4:29 pm

UPDATE:
SESSSION IS SATURDAY JULY 28th, 9PM WEST LOUNGE 1ST FLOOR MARINA MARRIOTT

Sticky this now guys.

Well Kids,

It's never too early to start planning for this monstrosity. I checked today (2/6) and hotels are already sold out via the Comic Con Travel Planners. Get on those waiting lists NOW, if you aren't already.

Do we want the Session at the Marriottt again? I'm thinking I might hold it at The Top of the Hyatt Lounge instead. The views alone would be worth it. Thought's are welcome.

Who is going? Who is exhibiting? Who needs a roomate? Let the Chaos ensue!

5 MONTHS AND COUNTING!!!!!

Keith, that is not to say there are no hotel rooms in town. Just not at the Con discount price.

But I would suggest that you try to do that within the week. that goes for everyone.

It looks like I'm getting to SD for the first time this year! (finally! ;)) of course I didn't even realize yesterday was the hotel day. doh! I've never been out there before...I just always hear how hard it is to get a hotel. anybody know a good hotel to try for? (that's not too far away...how far do most folks stay? walking distance or cab to the show?)

I'll be exhibiting @ SDCC for the second time this year, but this year we're moving up and out of the Small Press Pavillion.

We just got our acceptance letter, and apparently we'll be at space #4602 hawking our books and such.

It would be really cool to meet some of you folks. Good luck with the hotels, as that is a challenge, but certainly not too late if you act now.

Unfortunately, I'm gonna miss it this year. I really wanted to do a table again too.

Hopefully next year!

I'm definitely going this year. Last year was my first and like they say once you go GEEK....

Also, Warren Ellis is going to be there this year and he is my idol in terms of writing. He's just such an opinionated bastard that I want to see him in person just to take in the full rotten glory of him.

I also got screwed in hotel accommodations and now me and my friends are all cramming into one room somewhere like a mile away. Grrrrr......

I'll be there again, going on my 10th year to go to this big huge festival, although 3rd year in a row, and 3rd year as a Drawingboard member.

You think that I'd learn to get a hotel EARLY by now...but I had some friends who claimed that they'd have a hotel room, and they don't.

Joe Pekar
There are a couple reasonably priced hotel rooms about 1.2 miles away from the convention center. They are actually only 5 blocks away from the trolley station and that can get you to the convention center, or across the street from the convention center actually. If you have a roommate, it'll cost you about $35 a night PER PERSON, which is really damn good, if you ask me. It's where I stayed last year.

I can't remember the name of the hotel, but they do still have rooms available. Although I think they are kind of close to selling out.

Joe, you can PM me and I'll try to remember the name of the hotel. Trolley costs a little over a buck to get to the convention center, and it's a really good deal.

And there better be a sketch session. It was GREAT to meet so many of the members, and it was a bit easier with it, since last year the db didn't have a table.

Just wanted to make mention that if anyone is looking for a hotel, you can reserve one on http://www.motelgroups.com/

There is a hotel by the name of Hotel Occidental on that site, which is about 5 blocks from the trolley station (which can get you to the convention center for a little over a dollar) and is about a mile from the airport.

For two people, you can get a room for a total of $69 a night, three people for $74 a night and four people for $79 a night. It's a rather inexpensive deal, and if anyone is still needing a hotel, it is a good (and still available) option.

Just thought I'd let you know. It is only costing me $160 total to stay in my room for my entire stay (Wednesday - Sunday).

I should be there, behind the Flight table like last year. Got lucky with a hotel reservation, just one problem: never got confirmation that my reservation was ok! I'll try and contact them, see what's happening with that...

I am highly looking forward to finally meeting you Johanne! I was reading your interview at the character design blogspot, and had to print all the samples that you had up there. You are a true inspiration to all!

btw- I know you are living in CA and noticed that your location states Montreal! Still looking forward to meeting you. Hopefully you'll have some special goodies (aka sketchbooks) for the convention.

I'll be there again, but, I only bought the airline ticket.
However, I have not reserved the room yet.
When I couldn't reserve a room, I will bring a sleeping bag.
And I don't know the method of professional registration.
Someone know the registration method?
PLEASE...

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Artists/ Drawing Board team up?

Postby justdarcy! » Mon Mar 12, 2007 9:10 pm

Hi Folks! I have an idea which could be in all of our interests:

I went to the 2005 san diego comicon, and there found a lovely Drawing Board booth, from which I bought a couple of dashing sketchbooks, which I enjoyed immensely.

In the time after that I worked on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in New York City, and most of the preproduction artists (including myself) AND the supervising director contributed to a sketchbook of our personal artwork for the Big Apple con. that con has come and gone, and we still have some copies left over, but I won't be able to go to the comicon myself this year.

I was wondering to whom I should speak about a deal where in exchange for having our book and maybe a poster on display at the drawing board booth, we donate part of the sales that we make at the comicon toward the drawing board?

Is there a "boothmaster" around here somewhere, or was that booth in 2005 a fluke?

Here's a website we made for the book: http://www.turtletalent.com and if anyone else would also be interested in hosting the sketchbook at their booth, let me know-my email address is dvorhee at hotmail dot com
