Title Change: Only in Florida Thread

This is literally right down the street from me. I can hear the helicopters covering the scene for the news.
The streets are clogged with parents coming to pick up their children and news vans.

Good grief! A 15 year old 8th grader? Someone got held back a year or two!

Nutty kids. Often with equally nutty parents & grandparents who keep a firearms handy.

"I'll kill myself or die!" ...er, not the best at ultimatums, was he? Or that the concept of 'suicide' shouldn't include taking anyone hostage or making a big show of it, unless you're a religious nutjob attempting to get into some mythical afterlife while taking a bunch of heathens out with you.

Nah, I think that goes into the category of "My parents let the TV and Xbox raise me and I'm in desperate need of attention."
Despite early reports, the kid is alive for the time being. I hope he pulls through and gets the help he needs. Whenever things happen with kids this young it pulls at my heartstrings. As if puberty and high(middle)school weren't hard enough... now he's got this in his past for the rest of his life...

Oh My God

Brad just pointed out the worst thing to me...
The most recent article says the boy who was shot was armed with a pellet gun that looks like a 9mm.
Theres this Chinese place about 2 mailes from that school that we frequent. Attached to it is a "Dollar and up" store. It's owned by the same people, so part of the dollar store has spilled into the restaurant. They have tons of crap all over the counter you purchase your fod at.
The last time we were in there it was right before the place closed. Another woman was standing there near us waiting for her food as well. We were both gazing over the things strewn over the counter when she picked up a glock-like pellet gun and said to me "this is the kind of thing that gets kids shot"
:(

No, those toy guns arent what get kids shot, its not being a responsible parent that gets your kid shot. If your kid is dumb enough to buy a toy gun and then point it at someone who has a real gun, he deserves to get shot.

Maybe thats cold, maybe thats harsh, but that kinda shit gets you a darwin award.

I completely agree. It just was a bit shocking to me to have that conversation so close to when it happened and so close to where it happened. That may have been the very "gun" the kid was holding.
He's dead now. His family had him kept alive awhile so his organs could be donated, so maybe there's several families out there who are celebrating life today in exchange for his pointless death.

Here's more exciting news from my wonderful city this morning.

Ewww. Another dumbfuck. "I'm bleeding profusely, either due to my own inept suicide attempt or some accident or medical condition, so I think I'll jump off this overpass onto a highway and ruin the fucking day for a whole bunch of strangers and hopefully cause thousands of dollars in damage."

My boss said something like that, to which I responded "misery loves company" I think that's about right.
What's really disgusting about the whole thing, is that people were calling police for two hours after saying they hit something. He is ALL OVER the road.
I'm really glad that's not part of my morning commute. I could probably never get the image out of my head if I drove past that mess.
