I'm surprised no one here has posted reviews yet. I plan to see it on Saturday. I'm hoping it's better than the lesser Disneys of the past 20 years (Pocahontas, Atlantis, Treasure Planet...). If it's as good as BOLT, I'll be happy.

It was fun, but pretty forgettable. It drags a bit at the beginning until the guy shows up. Rapunzel's a cute kid 'n all (She's 18? HA HA HA! That's a good one! Oh...you were serious...), but I didn't find her all that interesting. Neither was Ryder (i.e. 'the guy') to be honest, but at least he was fun and fun shit went down whenever he was on screen.

The horse had excellent comic timing, which is something you can't say all that often. :P

It was pretty odd seeing Disney's first CG 'princess' movie though, complete with a whole slew of completely forgettable musical numbers. The old woman had a nice set of pipes on her though.

Oh and the chameleon was cute.

What's the deal with the weird title? If it's the next in the line of Princess movies, why not Disney's Rapunzel? Sure it was wacky but so was Aladdin, and they didn't call it "Disney's Up In Smoke".

The title "Rapunzel" reportedly didn't chart well with male viewers.

Dammit, I wish I wasn't so broke at the moment, or that the reviews were less kind to it so I could just skip it.
Now I actually have to justify spending money on a princess film.

Maybe I'll catch an cheap early morning screening. I wish I could opt out of the 3D though.

I also found out that the movie is just called Rapunzel over here (both the dubbed and the original version). Which I find strange, because you'd think they'd reason that the title would do poorly with male audiences all around the world.

Saw it, in 3D. The visuals are gorgeous; I haven't been this impressed with the overall look of a Disney film since Sleeping Beauty. There are also some funny parts, and Rapunzel and especially the villainess are well defined as characters.

On the down side, the plot has some major holes, which is even less excusable in a film that took so long to put together. You'd think during all the years they spent making this that they'd notice which parts don't make sense, especially when it's immediately obvious to the audience.

Also, the whole thing feels pretty cliched and Disneyfied. One thing I appreciate about Pixar is that their stories take turns you wouldn't expect. Disney still seems to operate under the dictum of "What worked before?" The bereft parents are never flawed or funny, the charming rogue always has a hard luck past to explain his lawlessness, the tough brute often has a secret, girlie hobby (= FUNNY!!!) and a heart of gold, the good guy always expects the villain to play fair....

Overall, it was about as good as Bolt, not as good as How To Train Your Dragon, or most Pixar flix.

I liked it. Maybe not on the level of most Pixar or Dreamworks titles, but still a fun flick, with great visuals.

I also picked up the "Art of..." book, and it's fantastic. Great art from cover to cover, with a ton of Glen Keane sketches and Craig Mullins even had a couple of pieces.
They say you should never hit a man with a closed fist, but it is, on occasion, hilarious.

i only saw the first 30 minutes, but that's because my girls got upset and we had to leave. in general it was good -- not a renaissance the way "little mermaid" was, but good. the designs and "acting" were really sharp.

EXCEPT the 40 minute, overly contrived and complicated (and narrated, jeezus!) explanation of her birth etc. seriously, they could have set up a better backstory in less than 2 minutes, without putting in kryptonite flowers or whatever the hell that was. boo to that.

Yes, that opening is a disaster.

I left feeling embarrassed.

I'm kinda confused. What exactly were you expecting? I mean...this is what Disney does.

It had a such good response from so many animation people whose opinions I care for so I thought "Maybe this isn't what I think it is".

It was.
