I saw it as a more genuine affection from Eli, but over time she just loses some interest. I'm sure she's been going through this cycle for a long time.

Chris's interpretation is spot-on of what mine has been since seeing it a while back, althought I'd like to believe there were some genuine feelings from Eli to Oskar. That's the shmaltzy Hollywood movie goer in me. Chances are Eli does see oskar as nothing more than a walking meal ticket.

I think that's because vampires have become so over romanticized. I mean are they not supposed to be soulless, bloodless undead? Humans are a link in the food chain. Somewhere down the line they got really cool and started strutting around in goth clothes and tiny sunglasses.

My impression was that the old man could no longer carry out his duties, so he was replaced. Who better than a smitten young man who won't ask questions?

Did anyone see "30 Days of Night"? An awful movie, but I really liked they way they portrayed the vampires, very pack-like, very animalistic.

Yeah...it was disappointingly bad. But I liked the head vampire guy. He was insanely creepy.

Just saw this movie the other night. Was thoroughly impressed with it on every level. I loved the fact that the movie was vague enough to let you form your own backstory, yet the characters were, in my mind, very rich and well formed.

As for all the questions about characters in the movie, like a few other people have mentioned, the answers are supposedly all in the book, but part of me wants to skip the book altogether, and just fill in the blanks on my own.

Oddly enough, my girlfriend had just gotten done reading the first twilight book, and we rented the movie on saturday, the day after watching let the right one in. I was almost angry after watching Twilight, mainly for the fact that it received so much press for it's "love story", yet, let the right one in, as a whole is a much more effective story on every level.

Regarding the american remake, I've heard that the idea is to adapt almost straight from the book and not the original movie, which I don't have much of a problem with, but really, the movie is so good, why spoil it with another version?

Because Hollywood thinks their audience is too stupid to read subtitles.

Actually, I think the teen/romance/vampire thing is what perked up Hollywood's pointy little ears.

I bought Let The Right One In yesterday, can't wait to see it again. Easily my favorite movie from last year.

It;s very unfortunate that ithe problem isn't what Hollywood thinks, but rather that the mainstream American audiences simply REFUSE to watch movies with subtitles. My mom had several friends who read great reviews of "The Diving Bell & The butterfly" and once in the theater IMMEDIATELY walked out and demanded their money back as soon as they discovered that there were subtitles. I heard several stories just like that involved "Pan's Labyrinth" as well.

I have found many reviews on Netlfix by idiots giving movies 1 star because a movie wasn't in English and the description didn't say it was.

Only a minute ago I saw someone give David Lynch's "the Elephant Man" 1 star ONLY because "The description should say this is a black and white movie. I was expecting a color movie. THIS WAS NOT WHAT I WANTED TO SEE"

ugh

So mainstream America's full of elitists and illiterates? Or is it just laziness?

Some sad examples there, drugs. It explains why Hollywood has to trick audiences into seeing these films by editing their trailers in such underhanded ways.

A lot of people here need things spoon-fed to them, but some people legitimately feel like they can't concentrate on the picture and the words at the same time.

All I can say about the US version is that they better not make the characters older. I can see them doing that to bring in a larger audience, even if it misses the point of the movie completely.

Saw this film not too long ago - must say> it was actually quite FREAKY. It recollected some very similar feelings i had when Exorcist was introduced to me.

It's TRULY one vampire movie that makes you think twice about actually wanting to become one. It's by far - very graphic (in the most non-graphic form). The sounds & subtle images, was just fuct up [i.e., fierce!].

Sad to say> I enjoyed this film - but not as a "whole". Mainly due to the fact (already mentioned previously), "filling-in-the-missing-blanks" would've completed the story on an 'ENTIRE' level (which could've easily been executed with only a few more subtle explanations) thus, can still leave it to one's own interpretation - without the audience having to scratch their heads & say, "I MUST GO READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT". The ending is fine/even perfect almost... as we all know, the best "love stories" are the ones without any endings.

My feelings of Eli is cold (almost typical to many people I know/dated).... seriously.... & poor daddy O' from the beginning - was just another Oskar 50+some years ago. And that's what makes this film - Unique.

As for Hollywood remaking this flick? Are we really that surprised? Not only do they remake foreign films, they remake their OWN features within less than 5-10 years increments. Hell, studios even have their own versions within the same year at times! I've given up questioning the masses... & learnt to "accept the things for which I can not change & courage to change the things I can"... Image

OVERALL> GENUINELY GOOD FILM! =)

I was unaware of the subtitle controversy until today. Apparently, between the theatrical and the DVD release, someone decided to dumb the titles a bit.

Weird. :?
