Yeah, I also believe the red shirt guy was the chief engineer. Not really sure why they would send a high ranking person on such a dangerous away mission, but whatever.

Also, Scotty just invented transwarp beaming, even though he didn't even come up with it in this time line.
But that probably sped up his promotion. And the fact that Kirk was in charge at the time, could mean that he thought the guy who saved his ass off the ice planet was in for a promotion.

I saw the film for a second time this week. Man this film moves at a breakneck pace.
Even though I?d seen the movie already, there were scenes where I still no idea what they were doing at times, because they passingly tell what they?re going to do.
