His leap onto Gary Cole is fabulous. He looks like a gigantic Jewish kitten.

If I were going to cut anything, it'd easily be the cold opening. It felt so weird and out of place compared to the rest of the movie, and it honestly just wasn't all that funny. It would have worked in a McKay movie, but this one is based on such a different kind of comedy that the obvious farce just looks dumb in comparison.

Shut up. ;) I liked the idea of that opening. It just wasn't executed quite well.

It's like a 3-D movie but instead of glasses you need to be a little baked before you can fully appreicate the film.

Just an observation from my experience of seeing the movie surrounded by Stoner's!

It would have worked if they used a really, really, really funny comedian for the part of the stoned soldier instead of Bill Hader who just ain't that funny.

I laughed much during the movie but my all-around feeling is that it was a weak, unoriginal comedy.

Seth Rogan's gonna do for losers what Kevin Smith did for fat guys in short pants.

Well I'm dragging this old thing up because I finally saw it last week and thought it was just about the biggest piece of shit I've seen since I can't remember when.
And I was looking forward to it too.

That's what happens when someone's expectations are too high. A funny little movie suddenly becomes the biggest piece of shit on the planet. When "Blair Witch Project" came out, the first batch of theater goers (such as myself) were honestly chilled by it. The second wave of viewers panned it like it was "Show Girls" because expectations were through the roof. Point being, any smallish movie that gets attention better live up to the hype, cuz if it doesn't, it suddenly becomes a piece of shit movie. Personally, I didn't think Pineapple was that great either, but I acknowledge it had some truly funny stuff here and there. Most of it was too numbskullish for me. Still worth my bargain matinee.six dollars.

My expectations weren't that high really.

This whole Apatow/Rogen (and related friends and unrelated friends doing the same king of thing) thing is fascinating to me.
I like all the people involved.
I like what they're trying to do.
But with the exception of Sarah Marshall I thought the movies were all shit.

You know when you go see a film, that even if you didn't like it you can understand whyy others might?
I had that experience with Pineapple Express except I couldn't quite work out what it was people were enjoying.
I thought it was shit from beginning to end, and when it was finished I couldn't believe I sat through the whole thing.

Is it a parody, is it a farce, what the fuck is it other than shit?
Anyway.
Lots of folks seem to love it so what the fuck do I know?

I thought it was pretty weak, at least for Seth. Way too much moronic slapstick and imbecilic jokes.

But I agree with you. One man's "Funny little movie" could be another's "Piece o shit". I personally didn't see the brilliance in the last Dark Knight movie OR Heath's performance. I could be wrong but I think any good actor would have done a phenomenal job. It's just with that kind of character you can't go wrong (unless you're a 230lb Jack Nicholson). Like Leo DiCaprio playing someone mentally challenged. Damn-near any good actor will look Oscar-worthy.
