Anyone know what's going on with The Characters lately?

Someone told me that there are now two rival Characters movies in development.

The Characters: The Beginning, which I mentioned before, is a reboot. Different actors playing the same characters, with the original director attached. The main Character is actually being played by one of his real-life sons.

The very similarly titled Sons of The Characters: A New Beginning takes place 20 years after the events of the original movie series, and follows the original Characters as they deal with their own children's coming-of-age experiences, much as they had gone through themselves. The son of the original main Character is being played by his other real-life son. The original, and much loved, main Character will be featured but, as the actor died last year, he'll be played by his brother.

All the other surviving original The Characters actors appear in the movie.

They're both bound to be crap, after all they're just frame by frame remakes of the far superior french film, 'Les Caract?res'. Which in itself was a remake of the little known, banned Nazi Germany original, 'Die Buchstaben: Der Anfang'.

Do yourself a favour and check out these versions before pining for another US remake.

BTW isn't the guy that plays whatshisname's son, the same guy from that show? Y'know, the one with the fish? He'll be perfect for that role.

Both of the sons have appeared in different fish-based TV shows. Which one do you mean - "All about my Halibut" or "I am The Fish, and The Fish is me"?

I dont get it...am I the only one who is happy that he is not done with The Characters? I think there is still potential with them...especially with him at the helm. Hey may not like them..hell, he may even hate their guts...but nobody knows them like he does. I'm glad he has ignored the internet community and that he refuses to be done with The Characters...we need more strong-willed people like him around, that's fore sure.

Don't forget the pilot they also appeared in "The Courtship of Eddie's Fish"...sure it was only a pilot, but it became a cult hit once it hit the internet.

I'm not trying to spread rumors or even start a shit storm here but...I heard Todd MacFarlane was the real creative force behind The Characters. Always has been. Just never took the credit for it. That's just the kind of guy he is.

Funny you say that. I heard a rumour that Liefeld was working as art director on the movie adaptions but due to the amount of smoke machines and teeth augmentations he demanded for The Characters, he was really blowing the budget.

...and word is Alan Moore has taken his name off the credits, ever since they Americanised the type of fish mentioned in his script. Apparently they changed it from smoked kippers to tuna fish. Can't say I blame him.

So what's with these rumors I'm hearing about The Characters being involved in an Iron Man spin off with Fin Fang Foom?

Did Marvel buy the rights to these characters? I would think that such a thing would be huge news, but I haven't heard a thing.
I mean, if The characters were sold off, then that would mean he was finally done with them, right?

Oh God, now you got me thinking of a Disney/Marvel/Characters crossover and I think my head just exploded.

I thought I heard a rumor that the Characters actors were going to be showing up as a super secret guests cameo in The Expendables too. Between that and the possible Marvel buyout, it looks like the Characters are poised for a huge comeback. It's about time, I say!

I just heard that my friends son is in a school play based on the characters.
Obviously the story has been watered down in order to avoid the scripted
naked character waving his character at the other characters. Should be
good but I'll never know because i aint goin and I don't care what you think about that
