It's a bad teaser, but I'll wait for an actual trailer before I make my snap judgement. :)

What was it a stereotype of?
And when did it crack wise?

Hmm, looking back I overstated on the "Cracking wise" portion.
As for the stereotype, I'm waiting to see how it all plays out but right now it feels a little too "blackface Minstrel show". Just my gut feeling.
At best I'm hoping he's just hillbilly.

Because of course as all good right-thinking people know it's ok to stereotype poor white southerners. Now THAT'S good clean entertainment !

I apologize for inadvertently starting this. I didn't want this to turn into one of those forums based on my my knee jerk reaction. Lets just let this one go.

I should apologise too - I was just stirring the shit.
I really had zero problems with your comment.

Aside from that, I do not think the firefly is supposed to be any kind of minstrel caricature.

While I can see the great execution of animation and some of the stylings by Clampett I cannot endorse the stereotypes.

We all understand in animation that artist draw inspiration from a source, In this case Cab Calloway/Duke Ellington and Jazz/Bebop musicians/dancers, and exaggerate traits, characteristics, etc., for emphasis but it is a parody of Snow White not necessarily an homage.

I know that cartoon characters are portrayed comically, but there was diversity in images for some, but not all, and for the ones who did not have the diversity of images to represent them, they got harmfully "branded".

P.S. Mateo do not take my comments as an attack. When discussing things on the internet it can be seen as such. I would like to hear your thoughts, regardless if you agree or disagree.

Hmmmmm, O.K. so what about all the Black movies and T.V. shows being made where every actor/actress sounds like a dirty south rap gangsta, are these stereotypes alright because it's live action. My opinion is, draw what you want, if someone doesn't like it they don't have to look, that is why there are so many different artists, musicians, writers, movies, etc. To not create something simply because someone might get offended (and trust me, someone always will) is unhealthy and nothing would exsist.

p.s. I'm Hispanic, if you think I love beans and rice, well you're right and it's not a racial attack. Only insecure ,weak minded, individuals, trying to get over would think that.

Not at all. No stereotype is alright.

This is not an homage to Snow White or any culture. It is de-humanizing. Underscored by the scene that says "Japs". It is not a "joke" or funny because this is what people believed.

We all know that certain things are taken and embellished in animation for emphasis, but when you obviously make something and embellish it to the point it is not a caricature but a grotesque mockery of what you think someone is, that is not good.

I could understand if there was a point/parable being made but there is none.

There are many artist, musicians, etc., that create but they all do not have the means to project their expressions in mass media. A lacking of diversity and a lacking of an outlet
breeds ignorance when others believe what they see as a true representation.

You like animation right? The perception of that is you are a nerd, slow or whatever negative connotation masses of people heap upon that segment of society.

Is the animation good? Yes. Is the timing good? Yes. "Some" of the stylings? Yes. Is the character temperament good? No.

To each there own, my wife is black and she laughs through the whole thing. Whats funny about stereotypes is that they are never really far off from the truth, maybe thats whats so funny about them, and so vicious. I say never really far off because there is always that 1% that is different, ha ha ha. Anyway I think the idea of everything having to have a meaning is ridiculous, I mean nothing is without meaning, but what is meaninful to you may not be meaningful for everyone nor would it be able to keep the universe in existance. I love pure entertainment, I'm not trying to learn anything from the damn t.v. I mean you might as well eliminate comedy all together, since all of it is based on questionable events, people, etc. A guy slips on a banana peel, another guy laughs. Our society is becoming far to sensitive, it reminds me either of an infant or a old man on his way out. Anyway I'm glad those cartoons were made. Alot of people may not like the idea of eating pig or cow intestines, but hey when cleaned and cooked right they sure make for some good chitlins or menudo, and if you try them they won't kill you, if you don;t get sick you just might like them, and as long as nobodies forcing you to eat them, there is no wrong done. Hey what did you think of Samuel L. Jackson playing a Nazi in the Spirit, see I thought that was hysterical. PEACE.my freind.

LOL!

I did not see The Spirit. I heard Sam was playing a Nazi..or at least dresses as one.

Now that is something that is riduculous and deserving of mockery because The Nazi's not German's are a wacky bunch! I can only image a few of the Neo's being upset at that!

Yeah, there should be humor. It is just unfortunate when you have people that are shallow who really, really, really BELIEVE and take to heart images they see before them as pound for pound truth. Not Cat's like yourself that are aware of other cultures.

Pce!
