Knowing what to charge

Postby cedricstudio » Thu Dec 30, 2004 12:26 am

Every once in a while someone posts asking for advice for what to charge when doing a freelance project. I freelance full-time, and I use a special form to help me ask the right questions and calculate a fair price. I picked it up somewhere in art school. Although each project is different, its been a very helpful guide.

I thought I would post a PDF version of the form for anyone to download. Just click here:

Cheers!

Nice, thanks for the handy posting. As an old pro , I know all this stuff, but have been to lazy to write it all down.

I'm giving this a bump, as I'm searching through Cedric's old posts.

Ced, you're consistently the most helpful 'old pro' on this board when it comes to business and paperwork.

Thanks again, mate.

the link does not work for me, i get a red x. I made a post over in the illustration section asking a question like this and received a link to a similar form from brainfartmedia.

Oysterboy,
Do you have Adobe Acrobat reader installed? The link is for a pdf file which you can read with that program. I actually think there is a free version out there. Let me know if you need help in accessing it.

I have Acrobat reader on my Mac, too!

My computer uses a program called Preview which opens pretty much any graphic image... it's very fast and handy for stuff like this.

pricing work

Postby ajmitchell » Mon Jun 13, 2005 7:53 pm

Thanks to Cedric! Generous info like this doesn't just help me in pricing my own work but improves the industry. Underbidding, whether by my own mistake or not, hurts everyone when it gives false expectations to clients for work in the future.

Or something like that.

Hey Oysteryboy, glad you found that link to be useful. It has come in handy for the projects I have gotten. Anyway, good luck to you and your future projects.

Another bump for this usefulthread - I know, it's really old, and got bumped once before... but I just discoverred it myself (via searching instead of asking the same question again - aren't y'all proud of me?) and I too want to chime in with belated thanks for posting this... plus it can't hurt to bump it 'cause people could always use something like this.

Thanks, Cedric (and hope you and your family are all doing well!)
