Muscles in motion - fun animation

Postby richardyot » Wed Apr 09, 2008 3:22 am

This animation was created as a fun viral:

All of the work involved was done by myself apart from the music which was licensed. The modelling, texturing and animation was mostly done in 3D Studio Max with sculpting in ZBrush.

The muscles were a particular problem, they were essentially animated by hand. I used a free plugin called MorphX2 which enabled to add a morph on top of the animated model, and then basically re-sculpted the muscles every few frames to animate them convincingly.

The design, modelling, texturing and rigging took about two weeks, and the animation another two weeks to complete.

The third segment is the best - some nice movement there.
Except for the motion blur and the when he flutters off like a balloon.

You don't like the motion blur? I did a version without but I thought the motion blur added a lot to it.

An animator on another forum said they thought the acting and anticipation were poor, which I totally accept. This is the first time I've had a chance to spend any length of time on creating an animation like this, so I've obviously got some learning to do.
