It is unreadable with the foreground character your supposed to be watching being completely overpowered by the background. With everything of totally equal values your eye cant make out what to look at. Those of you who think this scene is about the James Colburn caricature in the background may continue on. The bg is too busy and flat. Drop foucusing the forground or background would do the same but quite frankly the bg as an inside joke is boring and badly composed. Oh and this is a still from a film, not a comic book.

Ho ho that's just my opinion is it ? Oh I see the laws of visual story telling have been suspended . So good to know. Ask Uncle Don because at least he will tell him the truth and not just blow him off by being awed like you.

ORCHESTRA- I think it's great I'm learning drawing too! :?
I understand your point concerning the focal characters blending in with the bgs. I will probably darken and mute the crowd to give it more seperation. It probably won't be to the level as seen in Disney films. The style I'm going for has the characters blending in more with the bgs.

borism- Thanks! I'm glad you liked it. I can't wait to finish the rest and share with everybody.

I'm very happy with how most of the scenes have come out so far, and I'm not trying to make anything feature quality. I consider what I'm doing to be limited animation, hopefully with a higher production look. This is just a personal project I'm making in my apartment on an emac with an old Microtek scanner and no penciling testing equipment. Basically it's pretty ghetto.

Once it's completed, I hope people will enjoy it for what it is and let it stimulate their imaginations, and not measure it up to the Bluth name.

Peace.

I think Orchestra has some issues with herself, I would like to see animation that she did,
since she is so opinioneted. You need to have some body of work to support
your criticism.

As trailer goes things are pretty nice...:) I do not agree with a revision(I would like to make a foreground figure even darker, with more rimlit since he was showing all that is behind the main character in a FG)

Orchestra you cam PM me if you think there is more to say,I noticed ALL OF YOUR POSTS were did you reply are LOCKED now. So I do not want to lock this one as well.
I have 13 years experience in animation(design and layout) and I know what I am talking about.
This forum is not made for people to vent their fury(only god knows what is the reason behind),but to give constructive comments.Wathcing an animated movies, does not make you or me an expert, but pure involvement in a process of animation. Please do not take this as an attack, but a lesson how to behave among the total strangers looking for some pointers(if they look for some).
I am also member on some other forum websites, and there as an signature you can enable or disable editing of your work.If you do edit someone else drawing, your post do get deleted. This is something for a moderators to look into, to enhance code of conduct.

Moderators if I was harsh please delete my post. But I think it is worth reading.

Peace to you all.

Hey Colby! I've been a fan of your stuff ever since I saw the moneky movie hehe.

from the bits that you've shown Traun is going to be a kick ass short from you :O It is true that the bgs are "busy" but that's because of the style you chose to go with the whole movie. It feels very european like, very detailed and elegent :D I like! Can't wait to see the finished stuff ^_^

Thanks again guys for the encouragement!

Here's another frame from a new scene and a drawing I'm using for my Studio Barrington logo.

It shows the monkey from my first short film interacting with some of the characters from Traun.

Question

Postby KalEl118 » Fri May 05, 2006 3:34 pm

First, I'd just like to say that I've been a big fan ever since you were working on the monkey movie. Speaking of which, I thought it was a nice touch having the stuffed animal of the monkey leaning against the bed.

As far as my question, I was just curious as to which programs you were using.

Can't wait to see more.

Thanks,

KalEl118-

I'm glad someone noticed the stuffed monkey! Thank you for the kind words.

The animation and the backgrounds are done by hand and scanned into the computer. I run the inked animation drawings through Streamline to turn them into vector files. Then they are imported into Flash 4 and colored and timed. Then I export a pict sequence of the animation layer and composite it with the background in After Effects. Then I export a Quicktime movie of the finished scene and then import it into Final Cut, where it is edited with the other finished scenes to the audio track and eventually exported as the final Quicktime movie.

I'm always interested in sharing my working methods, so if anyone would like more details feel free to ask.

Bump!

Postby Citizen UNICRON » Thu Jan 17, 2008 6:24 pm

Can a moderator please move this topic over to the Animated Works Forum. Thank You.

I'm finally back to working on this thing. I had to stop a year and half ago because I was suffering from neurological problems (couldn't draw or work on the computer much, or sometimes even write my name), but I'm finally feeling healthy enough to continue.

I have 19 scenes left to animate and I hoping to have it all put together during the summer.
Here's a shot from one of the recently completed scenes of the antagonists.

I remember this topic from a long time ago. It's nice to see you're still going at it. The frame looks good. I'm curious to see the end-result.
