This is a great community!

I am very flattered by the kind responses. It is great to hear back from artists who I admire. Thanks RodGuen, Tyler, TeamChina, Scruffy, Lou, MBirkhofer, Supertoki, SpaceSick, and Yendorb. I'm glad you enjoy my pile of scribbles. I am trying to get better on all fronts...especially inking and coloring. Any tips, tricks, suggestions are welcome.

This thread has produced a lot of great images...some of my favorites are...

bangalore_monkey...I like how you captured the essence and fun of the pose.

JOey Lee...Post 1 is very appealing and cartoony. Post 2 is hilarious. The leg warmers gives a good reason for such a strange pose. Post 3...very cute. Are you by chance commenting on the fact that the Swimsuit issue features models instead of athletes? Models who don't seem to be any more athletic than your average Playboy bunny?

GoodAsNew...I love the colors and gestural qualities in the painting. It looks like a photo at a distance, but I love to see the "brushwork" up close and how the "paint" is layered on thick...

jetjaquar...Slick and sexy...Really appealing.

Koekjesdeeg...Stunning. You really took that photo and made it your own. It feels completely unique in its own universe. Awesome.

66crows...Tee Hee. Vampires are great.

em...This painting has a classic feel...like I am at the beach in the 40s. Classic and classy.

Leander...What the...? That kinda blows my mind. I never would have looked at the photo and come up with your half abstract painting. Really creative. I love it. I wonder if there is a way to preserve the abstract head and still get across the idea of a playful smile...

Mbirkhofer...Great drawing complimented by a great color palette.

Supertoki...She looks like a sad black oil alien from X-files. I fear her. Which is a really cool effect to get from such an otherwise sexy pose. I think it is the eyes and color choices...

trickmonkey...The red hair and tattoo are great. I might use Joey Lee's idea and have her arms down because she is pulling up her left stocking... Super sexy...

fishbone...WOW! You pushed that caricature so far...I wish I could get my brain to do that...Beautiful...

klortho...That one is suitable for framing. What great graphics! I like how you have pulled a lot of grahic design and collage elements together.

Cool beans. I look forward to more...

I'm new here too

Great start with your drawing...I can tell you have good observation skills.
I do see room for improvement. The biggest measurement mistake is the length of her arm, needs to be longer.

Over the photo of the pose I drew some lines to show how I analyze a figure.
In green is the rectangle shape the figure fits in. Study the negative shapes.
Red lines are a few key angles. I like looking for angles like from her hip and shoulder.
In blue are a few key arcs and circles. There are more descriptive arcs in her arm.
Yellow shows the construction of her features.

You are fairly close.
Your drawing will improve with a little closer observation.

What you wrote was very helpful. Learning to observe is tough, so it's good to have someone point out things that I missed and also give ways to help "see" better.
