Jam 1.28.05: Bettie Page

Postby BurnComics » Fri Jan 28, 2005 9:42 am

It was really hard narrowing this jam down to just 3 images, since there are so many fantastic images of Bettie.

Great photos to choose from. Must have been extremely difficult to narrow it down.

Panel - you can contribute anytime. People even post months later but you might not get as many comments.

Bettie

Postby BurnComics » Sat Jan 29, 2005 5:16 pm

Glad you guys dig the subject of this Jam. Bettie is just amazing, I wonder if anyone will ever outshine her as the pin up girl. Probably not :) Anyway, I'm really glad to be back and participating in this Jam. Looking forward to see everyone's work!

Maverikanim - Love it! Fantastic job.

Everyone else - get to it!

Christ did you two set the bar high enough?

I almost don't even want to post mine. I had been getting rusty so I decided to give all three a stab with some quick sketches.

Burn and Maverikanim have indeed set the bar in the stratosphere. Very inspiring. Those are two knockout takes on a knockout babe. Those pieces just ooze confidence and sexiness. Sweet figure studies there Moonman and Gothickitsine.

Wish I could have done Betty more justice. She came out looking more like MaryAnn from Gilligan's Island. Probably should have gone with a more conventional outfit too.

Hey, a drawing jam! Why I haven't seen a Betty Paige drawing jam in years it seems. Hmmm... I can't even find the old Betty Paige caricaturey, pen and inky thing I did all that time ago. Ah well, here's a quick sketchy deal of good ol' Betty.

And hey, some crits! (by the way, I don't tend to just say "awesome" when I do crits...)

maverikanim Nicely done, simple, graphic, plenty of personality.

BurnComics Not bad. I'd like some crisper shadowing to go with them sharp lines, but that's a preference thing.

gothickitsune The second one's decent. Eh, if you're gonna do a quick sketch, loosen up and try to work the forms as opposed to the contours. The basics are there, but they feel flat.

Red Rook From the shoulders down, that's a damn good drawing. That is a tough angle on the face with a strange expression, and you made a valiant effort, but yeah. I particularly like the butt to the left leg. Great connections and sense of space there.

thanks for the new jam (: here she is.

(my own crit: i could've been more careful with her fishnets, i'm not totally sure what's happening between her arms, and i wish i'd have tilted her head back more.)
