I am trying to find a decent brush pen for sketching and illustrating. I currently have a set of Prismacolor Premier markers/pens and a set of Copic Multi-liners SP, all with brush pens. Other than these two, I want to use and see more. I a m checking out site likes Dick Blick and others. But, I want a personal review of different pens.

hi everyone,
Lately i have been looking for a decent refillable brush pen and may have found it in the Copic Multiliner SP.
I use a sable brush for my ink work (which i still think is the best) but wanted something more convenient particularly for people sketching.
In my quest i have tried:

PITT artist pen (B brush nib)
It's not refillable but the ink is very black. the brush nib frays pretty quickly.

Pentel pocket brush.
excellent brush pen but went through the cartridges pretty fast.

Aquawash pen
Didn't work with ink.

Copic multiliner SP
Last year i bought this copic multiliner SP with 0.5 nib. This pen uses cartridges and the nibs can be swapped out. When the 0.5 nib began to wear down rather than buy another 0.5 nib i swapped in their brush nib.

Its really nice to work with and gives a lovely varied line. Its more controllable than the Pentel pocket brush. The ink is more a very dark grey but it is completely waterproof.

I still need to work some more with it but so far its my brush pen of choice.

Thanks. I have a set of Copic SP. I am trying out the Faber Castell Big Brush Pens. So far, they are really nice to work with on sketches. Down side they are not as blendable as Copic Markers. On the up, they do not bleed through. Here is a link, the video was shot in my hometown of Cleveland, Ohio in the Downtown area and on buses and trains (we call the rapids.) Also, Cleveland is the hometown of Faber Castell.

thanks, i saw that video last year and it really inspired me to try brush pens.
I do like the Faber Castell brush pen (the small ones).

by the way i have noticed with the SP multiliner the nib is starting to fray.
Its definitely not as study has the Faber Castell brush pen.

oh i didn't know Cleveland is the hometown of Faber Castell.

The Copic Multiliners SP, I have set. I just don't like the nib. I use Borden & Riley Sketch Vellum to draw on. So, the roughness of the paper is no problem, its the nibs, they feel really weak. I have a set of Prismacolor Illustration Markers (pens). The brush on those are pretty nice. How are the Pentel Brush pens?

hi,
after more practice with the multiliner SP brush pens the nibs do seem weak. the ink is more gray than black.

I can highly recommend the pentel pocket brush pen.
the brush nib is very fine and great for quick expressive sketching.

I can't find any of the Pentel brush pens in my area. I may order a few in different colors. But, I am taking a liking to the Faber Castell Big Brush pens. I just wish they were refillable, though.

Alright, I think I found some decent Brush pens for sketching. I went to this http://www.jetpens.com. I purchased three to try out. The first one is this one http://www.jetpens.com/Zebra-Disposable-Brush-Pen-Fine/pd/2307. Nice brush pen. Dries quickly and works well with Copics. The second is this one: http://www.jetpens.com/Tombow-Fudenosuke-Brush-Pen-Hard-Blue-Body/pd/5035. This one is a harder brush easier to use when detailing the face. I like this one the best, since I am a little heavy-handed at times. The third one is this: http://www.jetpens.com/Tombow-Fudenosuke-Brush-Pen-Soft-Black-Body/pd/5036. Same as the second one, just a softer point. All in all, I am pleased with the selection of pens. Again, I only bought this to practice my brush work and for sketches. Also, these are Japanese Calligraphy Brush pens. Don't let that deter you from checking them out. If you don't like the pens I chose, then there are many more to choose from. Also, they have the Rotring Tikky Drawing Pens for any of those familiar with the Rotring brands or pens. Again, check them out.
