best tablet pc for artwork?

Postby gaiking » Mon May 10, 2010 7:48 am

I'm thinking of getting a tablet pc for artwork...just cartooning type stuff and comics oriented drawings right now and I'm interested in either a used LE1600 from Motion Computing or a new HP-TM2. Which is actually better for artwork? I was leaning toward the TM2 since it also has the multitouch and is a higher end machine but I've read that the cursor can be jumpy and I can get an LE1600 for almost 1/3 the TM2 price and I have heard great things about it. Does anyone here have experience using both tablets and if so which works better for artwork? ....or are there better Tablets? I'm not really interested in a cintiq because I want something portable that I can just pick and use without without having to carry a separate pc..
thanks
Jim

Only thing I know is that they aren't really designed for artwork. They have far less pressure sensitivity than a wacom tablet or cintiq, but I suppose they might do the trick if you aren't too demanding. I don't know much about either of them specifically, although a more expensive option I do know a bit about is the Axiotron ModBook, which is a MacBook or MacBook Pro modified into a tablet.
They say you should never hit a man with a closed fist, but it is, on occasion, hilarious.

I'd recommend getting a high end laptop (ASUS has a $999 gaming rig at best buy with a 15" display) and the smaller wacom tablet. You'll spend less and get more functionality.

Get an Asus Slate EP121- Wacom technology and a full PC running Windows 7. Comes with a Bluetooth keyboard. I love mine.
