Artglaz website design

Postby Griz » Fri Jul 30, 2010 2:51 am

Sorry to be a pain my friends but I now need some advice from you, if you feel like it.
This is the link to my Holding page for my website : www.artglaz.com

Just tell me what you think, not forgetting the site is dedicated to Pinup using my Artglaz technique.
.
Many thanks in advance.

Can't really tell, yet, since not of the links are active. But the graphic on the home page looks great, the colors work, and the movement of the navigation bar is cool. Good luck with it.

Personally, I'd lose the gradient in the navigation bar (keep it just red) and the bevel & shadow effects on the title.

Looks like the site is for some guy named art, and is very text heavy. I would really get the attention on the home page by showing off more of the work. just my .02 cents

I agree with the opinion above that it appears that your name is Art and you have a BIG EGO due to the size and weight of your typeface. You may want to tone it down a bit, rethink stacking the name and possibly adding a tagline such as "The Revolutionary ____ _____ process."

Looking forward to seeing it finished. Please share it when it's complete.

I'm not all together sure what these last comments are about, a company does not have an Ego, there is nothing in the body of the page to balance things out for the moment. we must not forget that a web page has nothing to do with it's younger brother the "printed page".

But keep the comments coming it can only do some good.

Personally, I think it would be better for you to hand draw "Art Glaz" and work it into the illustration you have in the header(which is great, by the way).

I'd also have to agree with some of the previous comments about bevels and gradients-they really aren't adding anything to the design.

Also, have you considered maybe changing the background to white or some lighter color?

Though web pages are more dynamic in their interactivity, there is no denying that they share the same basic principles in how we process visual information with their older brother, the printed page. Just something to consider.

hey art. i'm no web designer or artist for that matter. however i have seen a lot of your work and it's fantastic, playful and very sexy. considering the comments and your art style i thought something that looked handmade might be cool so i took your graphics and incorporated a few of the ideas above and made this mockup. i hope you don't mind. if you like this style i wouldn't just copy it, i would go and have a look at a lot of different artists portfolios and with that and your style i'm sure you'll nail it.

Artglaz

A few notes off the top of my head:

You need some better-looking type for the site logo. Compacta or Impact (or whatever that very heavy sans serif is) just isn't going to cut it - it's too heavy and lacks personality. Nothing wrong with sans-serif, but what you have looks a bit generic.

More pictures of the product. The ones you have are good, but they should be larger and more prominently displayed - pick one or a few that best illustrates the idea and have it on the front page, so people can get the idea of what it is more immediately.

The nose and lips graphic isn't contributing anything of value to the page design - it seems a little non-sequitur.

I might take better advantage of that Dean Yeagle art and enlarge it inside that upper header area so that it crops but fills the space.

Lose the grey top band.

The black background is probably too severe - red and black is a very strong combination and overwhelms the art and product photos.

I spent a few minutes with it and sketched this out:

Blinked

I like what Blinkok did as well (interesting we both chose essentially the same color palette) but I think it's maybe a bit too busy for the purpose - the design demands too much attention, I think. Could be toned done or re-arranged and might work quite nicely.

Nice work!

Scouring

Postby Scruffy » Thu Aug 05, 2010 3:38 pm

Yeah, pretty much the first thing I do when contemplating a new site design is scour the template sites to see if there's already something that would work, that could be customized to fit the project. Great place to start to find inspiration.
