7/11/2007 - Strange Behavior
Over at CGSociety, it's time yet again for another big CG Society Challenge. The theme for this one is 'Strange Behavior.' I wasn't happy with the last Challenge - it was to doa work based on Greg Bear's novel 'Eon,' and while I had fun and made a nice piece, I didn't really get to add anything new to my portfolio, which I like to focus on humorous and whimsical art. 'Eon' was neither. This time around, with a theme like 'Strange Behavior,' I'll certainly get a chance to do something more befitting my favorite art style.
I'm working on a piece of a bunch of Elves (a la tolkien) playing Dungeons and Dragons or some other sort of role playing game. My thought is that even if this behavior may be natural to them, it's considered strange by other elves... heck, when any kid of any race plays D&D, school peers think they're a little... off. So I'm playing off of both peer response to game players, and the plain old weirdness of Elves playing an RPG.
You can see my entire thread of work in progress for this Challenge here, but here are some of the preliminary sketches I've been working on so far:

Anyhow, feel free to check out my thread on CG Society to see much more...

I love your drawings,
they all project their character real well and you can imagine
just one question

usually whenever i draw them theyre like bumps with sticks nd stumps in random directions :)

Sorry to take so long to reply. Sorry, but I don't really have any great tips on drawing hands aside from practice. Take some time every now and then to just sketch your own hands, fill up an entire sheep of paper with 'em. The more you do it the better you get. Keep in mind finger shapes - different characters have different kinds of hands, from slim and tapered womens' hands to chunky, blocky mens' hands.
Hey, Xia, good to see you - hope you'll get the chance to draw more, you always had some good stuff! |
