11/3/2006 - Dinosaurs!
We've been looking for fabric to decorate the baby's room with, and the pickings are scarce. Childrens' fabric seems to fall into a few major categories: Liscenced stuff (like Dora the Explorer, SpongeBob, and Thomas,) what must have been public domain images from the 1800s of children playing with archaic toys, and creatures drawn so poorly they're embarassing (at least to me, as a professional artist.) When I occasionally find something that I do like, it inevitably comes in pastel pink and blue (which we're trying to avoid: Too cliche) or lime green (?!?) or multi-colored on black or dark blue. The last is is nice but a bit dark for the room we're looking at. A shame, too, as many of Nancy Wolff's designs are quite nice.
I wish I could just design my own fabric and then just have it made. Cute characters, the perfect colors for the room... wouldn't that rock? So some of my warm-up sketches today were of cute dinosaurs for non-existant curtains for the baby boy's room... plus a few other doodles thrown in. I'd probably have to draw them even simpler for a fabric... not like that's going to happen!

Well, if you're really into it, you can. Find cotton fabric... soak in magic stuff... iron onto freezer paper... run through the printer... soak in more magic stuff. Here's the link http://www.dharmatrading.com/bjset.html to the magic stuff.

Laura -
Thanks for the idea about adding images to cloth. I think that sounds like way too much work for me at this point in time, and the absolute last thing I need right now is another half-finished project sitting aorund the house. But I appreciate the idea and the post.

1/2/2007 - print your fabric |

| I don't know why I happened to be looking at your drawing blog tonight, but here I am. Perhaps your illustrations caught my eye. Anyway, we are set up to print your fabric, should you still desire to have some for your new child. There are some size limitations, but you might want to visit the Daydreams Art Fabric website to see more. www.colfaxcloth.com/Daydreams.html |
