10/18/2006 - Axis City thumbnails
Once again, CGSociety.org is hosting another contest, this one being to illustrate a scene from the book 'Eon' by Greg Bear (with Bear's permission, in fact.) I haven't done a straight-up science fiction image (i.e. non-humorous) in a while, but it might be fun to give it a shot. Part of their contests is always to post all of your sketches in progress, so I'll be doing a lot of images for this over the next month or three. I won't post every single one here, but will make an attempt to share a representative sampling. It's early now, and I'm just starting with thumbnails:

What's going on here is there's a large, cylindrical, self-contained city about 40 km long floating in a cylindrical chamber. There are 3 people (1 human, one semi-human, and an alien) standing in the foreground.
If you'd like to see the entire contest thread, it's here and will be ever-growing. :)
