6/16/2008 - Project: Rooftop
This morning is crazy busy at work, but I didn't want to wait until the afternoon lull to share with you my Superman: Man o' Style entry for Project: Rooftop.
I did several, but only bothered to take one of them through to the final-draft stage. I could write an essay, but I'll just say that I was going for Superman: Two-Fisted Space Explorer. I was inspired by Flash Gordon. The belt is part wrestler-belt and part Supergirl belt from this, my favorite Supergirl cover. The "S" is a bit chunkier and, I think, feels "happier." And the shield on his back is just a blank, metallic-yellow diamond.

5/25/2008 - Dr. Sketchy Seattle
Last Monday I got really drunk! And I drew ladies! Or a lady. Mama Lou Strongwoman performed at the May Dr. Sketchy and absolutely killed. C'lammy Jon was all in love and it was great. I don't remember how long I spent on each of these so, instead, I'll tell you what I was drinking at the time.
Vodka.
 Vokda.
 Vok'kaaahh .. ...mmfffFFFFFFF!

9/6/2007 - Ack! I got married!
Hey Drawingboard pals! Ariel and I got married on Saturday!
We're out on Oahu now. Below is a doodle I did while looking out the window of the little rental condo where we're staying. Click to see bigger (and be taken to our flickr page) I don't have a whole lot of drawing done, but I'll try to find time to do more.

Also, I like this picture. (Note the t-shirt)

8/21/2007 - Here are a couple more.
For my birthday last month, my little brother bought me DuckTales Vol. 1 on DVD. Those cartoons are so much fun! Exactly as I remember them. I'd been on a Disney Ducks kick for a few months before that, having inherited a bunch from a friend in June, and bought a bunch on ebay. (For shame!) Here are a few ducks.
That guy on the left there is a magician character from a comic I started before the wedding planning went into full drive. And I was going to develop him more, but then I saw Ratatouille and realized his character's a clone of Linguini, so it's back to the drawing board for him. Blah!
These were from this weekend. Pulled out my watercolors, as you can see.
And to finish it off, why not a Danger Mouse?

8/20/2007 - Boy have I been busy.
I really haven't had much time to post, lately. Ariel and I have been busting our butts in preparation for the wedding. (Which is in less than two weeks. Jeez!) My website is becoming more work than it's worth, but I figure once I get a nice, clean site I'll feel less bad about neglecting it. If you want to visit, the Sketchbook and Illustration sections are back up.
Here's a doodle of people at the mall. Every so often you can find me sitting and drawing in the basement of the Pacific Place Mall, here in Seattle. Ariel gets of work later than I do so sometimes I'll meet her. (In the winter, when it's dark out before we're off work, we meet every day so she's not walking home alone. ) Anyway, many of the people here are paying for parking at the kiosk so I only see their backs. This is a page of people from one afternoon.
Little kids' limbs are never coordinated. Very fun to draw, but very very hard to catch on paper since they move so dang fast!

5/31/2007 - Lost? or just moving to a new server?
So my website's moved to a new server. I've completely trashed it all and will begin slowly building it back up from scratch. Any of the old images linked in this journal or wherever will be gone for a while. Some of the better ones will come back, I'm sure. I don't figure anyone will notice. For now there are no files on there save for the index page and this little Lost doodle I did today at work.

Relatedly, I'm trying to learn some CSS / XHTML stuff, because my interweb skills are old, dusty, and embarrassing.
What else is new?.... Wedding planning is plodding along stupidly slowly. There's a lot more work involved than I thought. Shouldn't I have sent out invitations, like, last month?
It's beautiful here in Seattle. Yesterday climbed up to 87 degrees on the weather-o-tron. It's too nice out to be at work. It's also too nice out to do laundry. 'least, that's my excuse.
My old friend Morgan is coming back to the US (from France) for about a week, and I couldn't be more excited to see him.
I bought a bunch of old Donald Duck/Disney Comics and am enjoying the hell out of those.
How are you?

4/16/2007 - Pages from my sketchbook. Also, a gross foot thing.
Hi. I haven't been around in a while, I know. I'm sorry. But really you're probably better off without my retarditoons. That's a new word. I invented it. I wish I could say "so much has happened lately that I was too busy to post!" but we would both know that that wasn't true. Neither of us would say anything, but it would make us both uncomfortable and we wouldn't make eye contact until one of us changed the subject. I don't mind, however, sharing what little I do have. So here!
This is a page of practice for a little story about a magician who sucks at doing magic. I stopped working on this when I realized I didn't know what he, as the protagonist, wanted. For shame! I've since figured that out. I'll get back to work on that.... someday.
Here's what I've really been doing with my time. Watching Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends; thinking about Star Trek; reading comics; drawing on post-it's at work; and getting some weird infection in the side of my foot that made my shoes hurt. Until I cut it open!
Darkseid is simply very cool. I like to draw him way bigger than he appears in comics. Or cartoons. Or anywhere. Ignore his stumpy arms. They appear that way on accounta I can't draw.
Warm-up sketches! I like to stick my "inspiration" folder in a slideshow and quickly draw what I see, and then go back later and refine, add to, and clean up a little. I learn a lot this way. Many of the files in that folder are from this very drawingboard, so if things look familiar, it's probably 'cause I stole 'em! Thanks!
I haven't updated this blog in so. Very. Long. (Edit: Looking back, it was a few days short of a YEAR!) But that doesn't mean I'm not reading yours. I am! I'm just a lurker, lately. You guys are awesome!

4/20/2006 - Avengers.
Posted these in the Avengers thread. I suppose one reason to post something both in your blog and on the board is so that you can write about it/yourself in your blog without boring the board-goers to tears. To wit:
These I'm especially happy with because they're the first thing in a long time that turned out well. I haven't been drawing much at all, lately. I moved to Broadway in Seattle, (from Ravenna, for those familiar with this place) and am still (poorly) adjusting to the change in space. My drawing table isn't even really a table anymore. It's an incline table-top precariously balanced atop a half-wall between the living room and the kitchen. And I'm standing up to draw which, I must admit, is growing on me. Anyway, like I said, these came out after a long frustrating spell of both inactivity and uninspired... ness. Uninspirededness.

3/15/2006 - Cute little movies.
I just wanted planet Earth to know that my girlfriend is the best one

little movie, starring my stuffed mouse. and then today she sent me this. The little Koala is hers. These make my head explode with cuteness.

After about a million other people declared it BatGirl week, (it started with This Guy and This Guy , after Andi Watson) I decided to do my own version of BG. This one's more Mononoke inspired. | | Na na na na na na na na..... | But that sucks compared to ALL OF THESE! This is absolutely NUTS!There's probably a ton on the board, too, but I haven't checked yet. :P

12/20/2005 - It's almost CHRISTMAS!!!! WHEEEEEEEEE
It's slow here at work. Drinking tea,
browsing the internets. I've surprisingly found time to post several
times on the Board in the space of a few days. Click on this pic to go to the thread. I always feel like if I post something here and on
the board, it's like I'm looking for attention. I'm not. It's just that
I never have anything else to write in my blog besides, "Hey, look! I
posted".
