Mostly just an excuse to blow steam.
There are 2 giant black bees that were painted into the piece while still alive, but slowly dying.
While at a park I found these 2 giant black bees that were injured, and dying.
So, I stuck them to my painting's surface, and painted them into the texture with globs of varnish.
Mixed media piece.
includes human hair shavings, dirt, varnish, water-color, acrylic, ink, charcoal.
and live insects.

Painting "Magnus the Robot Fighter!"
copyright 2006 Toby Cypress, and Punkrock*Jazz productions
Here is a quick look at my painted version of "Magnus the Robot Fighter!"
A work in progress, I should finished with the painting soon. I'm using Acrylic paint, and pictured are some close-ups of some of the early work on the piece. Just laying in tones.

I'll post a proper look at the piece as more work gets done...but for now that's all you get!!

TRINARY
copyright 2006 Toby Cypress, and Punkrock*Jazz productions
Trinary was an ambitious project I was helping develop with Dark Horse comics. 2 years in the making, the title to the project is now called ZERO KILLER (blech).
Anyway, I'm no longer the artist on the project because the project was way too complex for what I was interested in at the time. I guess Zero Killer should be coming out next year? Dunno'. I'm no longer involved with the concept work, but I did a bunch of stuff almost a year ago.
Here's the protagonist...his name's ZERO.

THE BOXER an exhibition
copyright 2006 Toby Cypress, and Punkrock*Jazz productionswww.tobycypress.blogspot.com
THE BOXER
A series of paintings (6) featuring the savage sport of ring fighting. The paintings are not historical, in fact they are more sci-fiction than fact. This is the "title card" of the exhibition to promote the work. I came up with this sketch to motivate me with feeling. I dig the idea of these fancy boots dancing their way across canvas, while above them, out of view violence reigns down on sweaty beat-meat.

This is an ink rough of one of the paintings.
I dig the layout, but I haven't nailed the figure design. Dimensions for this rough-8.5"x11"

THE BOXER painted rough
This is one of the unfinished paintings. Dimensions- roughly 40"x60". Mixed Media
Based on my ink sketch, I don't feel I captured the sense of depth, and solitude I was aiming for. I also don't like the figure design. I'm about half way thru the painting, and realised that I need to re-do the thing. So this piece will probably be abandoned. I do like the light vs dark, but I may use a cooler color scheme on the re-do.
