7/1/2007 - Summer School

I've been taking some classes at the local community college this summer because in many respects I'm a dumb ass. In others, I'm an absolute fucking genius. But more often than not, I'm a dumb ass.
So I rarely have time to do what I want, and that includes animating. And with SDCC coming up soon, I have even less time on my hands.
So it was good to animate while demoing Flash, Photoshop, and use of a tablet to a friend today.
Here's what we came up with:

I finished animating Dogzilla today. I'm looking to license the rights to the music so I can hopefully make some money off that year long effort. The song is Gallop by Kaburefusuki, Yori. If anyone has any information on how to get the rights to that song, let me know.
Till then, enjoy this gif of some guy dancing (not me!). I think it's pretty obvious that I can't dance.

I am now, officially, 66.7% done with this cartoon! All that's left to do is to animate the stick figure guy. Woot!
Also, tomorrow is my birthday. I hate getting older, but I always look forward to my birthday. I'm complicated like that.

So I animated what was on the animatic. And as I searched for an easy shot to animate next, I thought it would be funny to have the hotdog hit like a giant sissy.
Funny story: it's harder to animate a sissy swat than a non-sissy swat. But it's easier to hit like a sissy than a non-sissy. What? It's just me?

Not much of an update, but there's what it looks like with music. Unfortunately, it looks like it makes no sense without the cast shadow in the second shot because no one knows what he's looking at without it.

9/15/2006 - Howl's Moving Castle

Finally saw the "last" Miyazaki movie. I know exactly what I liked about it and what I didn't: it was a fantasy movie. His fantasies are like going on vacation. At first you're taken with the foreign surroundings and people. You want to explore and find out more. Eventually the vacation can't get over soon enough and you want to get back home.
His movie pounded so many ideas into my head, I just wanted to quit watching and start playing with those ideas, seeing what I could do with them.
I suppose that's better than the alternative. But I would have liked more reasons to sit through it all than just my stubborness.

I'm probably the last person on this planet that should be teaching anyone how to animate. But he began throwing money at me, so what the fuck.
This is the second animation from the first day.
Not bad, eh?
I focused on teaching him how to use Flash, its shortcuts, and the pose-to-pose method.
Also, I animated the sun. He did everything else. There's nothing better than a student that wants to learn.
He still needs to learn the basics of drawing, namely solid construction. But he's paying me to learn Flash, not how to animate. So I'm okay with taking his money for that.
