6/5/2006 - Drawingboard profiles, now better.

I’ve been working on the forums a lot lately, and just wanted to update you all to let you know what is being added. So here’s a quick roundup of some new features plus some new ones probably won’t affect you, but I figured I should mention it anyway, to let you all know I’m still working hard to keep the board secure and bug free. I’ve been working mainly on the profile area adding options and enhancing some features. Here are a few of them.

Better-subscribed topics list at your profile home. You can sort your topics you’re subscribed to and have it filter by date. It automatically brings to the top posts that have been replied to you’re watching.

The member list is working and can be fully customized and sorted. Any columns of information you need can be added or deleted.

I’ve added an online/offline/hidden indicator next to username in posts. A green dot means the user is logged in, the gray mean not logged in and no indicator means the user is hidden.

They’re new summer time management for those you in areas that use daylight saving time. The time formats are easier to choose as well in your preferences.

Some new birthday features. Hopefully the cake icons work this time around.

I’ve added a more robust signature editor, which uses the post editor with BBcode to edit the signature.
Added anti robotic registering so spammers using machines can’t just sign up and spam the boards or the blog comments.

You can now manage more precisely what the others users and see in your profile.

Well there’s a lot more features to be added. This is just the beginning. So please keep posting and I’ll keep hosting. Let me know if you have any questions at all by mailing me.

5/13/2006 - Have your text take a walk

Ever wonder how a good formatted entry includes the way the text in entry seems to naturally flow to the left or right of an image similar to a well laid out magazine or newspaper? I’ll show you how simple this is to do using the Drawingboard.org blog editor. It’s extremely easy and can be used to walk the text around either side of multiple images in one entry, like the effect that’s demonstrated in this entry.

Step one.

Grab and format an image on your computer. Make sure it’s been saved as a jpeg, gif, or png file, and has been formatted to be viewed through the web. Go to your administration area and select the 'files and photo's menu appropriately enough, and pick an album to upload your photos for your upcoming entry, You should be on the screen as like the image below, showing all the files you’ve uploaded, plus the option to upload more!

Step two.

Go ahead and click on the upload images button and which should bring you an upload file screen. Simply browse to the file on your computer, give it a custom title and description if you wish and go ahead and hit the upload file button. You file should soon be added to your album.

Step 3.

After it’s done uploading, you should see a thumbnail of your newly added image. At this point, click on the post link next to the thumbnail. This will bring the image into the editor automatically. You’re all set to start laying out your entry

First click on your image in the entry and a set of handles will appear at the images four corners. You can click and drag the handles to resize your image to the perfect size.

Step 4.

After you have the image at the size you need. Go ahead right click on the image, to get the image menu. Select the image properties option and a pop-up menu appear with all kinds of layout functions you can use to enhance the look of your entry.

Step 5.

The Align drop down menu allows you to fine tune where you image will appear in the text. For example in the sample below I’ve picked “align left” and you can see a quick preview of how any text you type will react to it. See how the sample text will fall to the right of the image with the image aligned to the left? Simple!

You can easily do this for any image whether it’s hosted in your album here or some where else. Once you add the image, you can always access the image drop down menu and play around with the settings until you have the perfect layout, although if you post images that are in your album, the code is automatically generated that will make the image a link, to the larger version. Play around with the image menu. Because this blog is mostly artists, you'll probably be using this menu a lot.

Please ask any questions you have about this in the comments or at the Drawingboard.org. More entries about the blogs are to come!

4/5/2006 - Just a quick template note.

Okay blog people. Just a quick note. I've added three new templates that you can play around with. The are all dark background templates with lighter text, and have a large header image. Of course you can make whatever changes you need to make to the images or the HTML, but these new templates might give you a good starting point, if your blog needs a makeover.

Here they are!

Here are the links to the example pages, so you can get an idea of what they look like in a browser.

You can access them by clicking on the templates tab and clicking on the edit template tab, and backing up your old template (just copy and paste the text in the field in your favorite text editor). Then click the 'choose a template' sub tab and click on the 'use this template' button under the new template you want to try. Have fun with these new templates and feel free to modify them however you want. These might give you a good starting point to making your blog nice and personalized. Always feel free to e-mail me or comment if you have any questions! I'll be adding more templates soon.

Remember artists need their blog to look 100% unique!

3/27/2006 - spel chekc?

 Spell Check!

Another quick blog features update. I get bugged more for this feature then anything else

Spell Check!

There should be a button in the editor window for it. It’s very comprehensive and self-explanatory. So check it out! Lord knows this is a feature I can use.

One of these days I’ll add a spell check like this one to the Drawingboard as well. The one on the board works but tends to not offer good suggestions, and screw up sometimes. Ha!, the work never ends.

So try it out and let me know what you think. My next step is to organize those buttons in the editor.
