6/23/2005 - 'Can't clone animals without a ruler & some fancy scissors

Working with felt was a shitty idea; i only bought it 'cause it was 20¢ a sheet. 'Serves me right for being such a cheapass! Ha. I found it pulls apart too easily and was a pain to cut: the edges would come out all freyed... though i was using a pretty ghetto pair of scissors. Hmm... i'm thinking upgrades all-around, after i learn the basics with the crap supplies! Here's what i learned thus far:

■ Don't attempt to free-hand patterns..... unless you have machine-like accuracy ( i do not, apparently ). 'Gotta use a ruler next time. :P

■ If you hug your cat more than 984753853 times a day like i do, the cat hair from your clothing will land on the felt you're sewing every 5 seconds; clinging to it like velcro.

■ Do not use black thread on the black felt...unless you have superhero vision.

'Fun stuff, so far :)

Ha Ha! About a year ago I bought cheap felt and thought I'd try my hand at some little critters too. Didn't work out at all. Soooo, sock dogs are the only thing I've managed. Have you seen or heard about "A Month of Softies"??? You can get to it via www.loobylu.com This is something I've wanted to do for a long while, just haven't had the time...and well, my skills are very limited. This month's theme is sock monkey so I think I'll be able to pull that one off. Come on, Sue! I'd love to see what you come up with!
