8/29/2008 - Hi kids! long time no post.

Posted by Neneuche
I've had it rough.
I have been trying to cope with my head going all over the place but it's not easy.
I have a bunch of cool art at work but I ain't allowed to show you guys what the dillio because of all the corporate bullcrap we have to sin when they hire us.
My  3rd book illustration work is out now. I think the graphic artist messed the front page, but whatever.
It's the story of a humming bird who has a feather in its eye. I had other ideas for the cover, but they really wanted the cat and the bird and the feather so you gotta do what you gotta do. I am including the artwork and the book image so you can see the difference.
Feeeeeeee!!See how the letters are all over the place? Meh. I couldn't find a biger image online and I'm too lazy to scan the book.

Oh and leave me comments or I think you don't like me.
I'm needy.

8/28/2008 - Inking with Illustrator

Posted by KirkGuy

Well, this post is for _abl_.
I do not leave many of my old posts, but take them off. _abl_ had asked to see the Wolverine I inked (over Ed McGuinness pencils) as proof that one can ink in Illustrator. Though this is proof that such can be done, I find that people who can ink well, can do much better with a real brush then what I can do with Illustrator.

The one thing that makes this possible in Illustrator, is that I did it on a Cintiq (Monitor that you can draw directly on). Looking back on this image, there are ways it could be better. I think it would also go quicker with a real brush then what I did here with Illustrator. But since I dislike inking, Illustrator helps me with the ablity to go back and change/fix things.

8/26/2008 - Battle Damaged

Posted by KirkGuy

Wow, been awhile. I guess these images reflect my mood about my drawing of late and my ability to be disciplined at it.

Life with a full time job that requires more then 40 hours some weeks, family time and kids involved in sports, a house that requires work from time to time, and finding time to exercise can really fill up you time.

Some times this drawing can be so trying, I would like to just chuck it all and quit drawing all together. But then there are the times when I just let thing be what they are, quit stressing about it, and I really enjoy drawing.

So like many things in life, one day at a time and let things be what they are. Sort of like faith. Leaning on the Lord at times when we are at the end of ourselves.

The above is Matt’s Starblast character after a big fight. Preview of page 12. Have a good day. - Kirk

7/8/2008 - Found what once was lost or at least forgotten

Posted by Zram
So, I stumbled back here, to the drawing board and eventually to the blog.... I wasn't sure if it would be worth it, but I spent the last couple of nights deleting the 400 or so spam replies that got littered on my less then 17 entries here... It was sad, I was so excited when I signed in that first day and saw that I had like 400+ comments! I was like what! No way!...  and it was a great big hose job, spam bots spamming stupid stuff...

The replies where 2 years old now.  I finally got rid of them.   Now what.  Am I going to start posting here again?  After all these years.  I've become so stagnant.  So old, so tired, sad and defeated.  Most of the people I used to come to the forum to read about and get excited by are gone elsewhere, those that I enjoyed banter with and a kind of friendship through the stories they told are also gone...  moved on, moved away to some other activities, some gave up on the art that once came here to improve, having seen their limits and deciding not to work and push beyond them for other persuits.

is that my fate...

6/16/2008 - Project: Rooftop

Posted by themightyadam
This morning is crazy busy at work, but I didn't want to wait until the afternoon lull to share with you my Superman: Man o' Style entry for Project: Rooftop.

I did several, but only bothered to take one of them through to the final-draft stage. I could write an essay, but I'll just say that I was going for Superman: Two-Fisted Space Explorer. I was inspired by Flash Gordon. The belt is part wrestler-belt and part Supergirl belt from this, my favorite Supergirl cover. The "S" is a bit chunkier and, I think, feels "happier." And the shield on his back is just a blank, metallic-yellow diamond.

6/4/2008 - Living large.

Posted by Neneuche
I uploaded a few pieces from the last Dr. Sketchy I went to. I brought in my laptop. The models were 2 very interesting and very large women. They're performers in Big Moves, a dance troop with fat people. They posed with skampy outfits, which is propper Sketchy attire. They were pretty fun to draw and they also talked a lot, which is usually not goot for a model to do because it tends to make them move, but they didn't. We laughed a lot.
FYI, the one with glasses had pasties on her nipples, just so you didn't think they were bloody or something.

5/25/2008 - Dr. Sketchy Seattle

Posted by themightyadam
Last Monday I got really drunk! And I drew ladies! Or a lady. Mama Lou Strongwoman performed at the May Dr. Sketchy and absolutely killed. C'lammy Jon was all in love and it was great. I don't remember how long I spent on each of these so, instead, I'll tell you what I was drinking at the time.

Vodka.

4/5/2008 - Stupid shizzle

Posted by Neneuche
Hey guys. I know I've been a bad blogger but my heart isn't into it that much. I have drawings but they aren't scanned and my computer is dead and has been for weeks. I'm using my boyfriend's pc now.
Recent events:
-Broke my left hand and had surgery
-Had to get a medical leave of absence and got only partialy paid for a while
-I'm terribly depressed and I lost my appetite.
-I lost 7 pounds.
I feel horrible all the time.
I'm 28; I feel like I'm stagnant and old.
So yeah, not the best part of my life.
I'm getting help.
Here's a funny cat to lightn this crap mood.

I'll post art soon.

2/7/2008 - Time for the 60s

Posted by KirkGuy

Been busy crazy, hectic the past two weeks. Should be slowing down here soon.

Getting close to the 1960s time for StarBlast in my page progression, so time to start drawing him this way more. Now this build is not correct, but just messing around as I have not had much time to draw of late. I like the body language of the center pose. By this time in his career, he is getting somewhat cynical.

Oh by the way, we got 10 inches of snow on Wednesday. Everyone at work left at 2, but I stayed because I had stuff that had to be done that day. Work is not much fun when everyone else is gone. I didn’t leave till five. I can drive in just about any conditions. Snow is no big deal. Infact, it use to be more fun to drive in the stuff in the days of rear wheel drive. Oh I miss those days. I would lay on the gas around every corner and be fishtailing all over the place. Front wheel drive stinks.

Oh well, we all have to grow up, don’t we. Take care all - Kirk

1/8/2008 - Happy New Year!!

Posted by Neneuche
Hi kids!
I know, I know I suck at blogging.
Well, I had a pretty cool new years celebration except my boyfriend and I fought in front of our guests, but I guess that was bound to hapen since heavy drinkin was involved. It's cool now.
As promissed here is the cover of the book I drew in last summer. I'm doing another one now, totaly different story and style.
Anywho, I'd better specify that this image is property of Éditionsdu Phoenix and that I do not own it, even if I drew it.
That said, hope you like it. All the best in 2008! I think we're due.

It looked better last summer. I see lots of things wrong with it now. Bah! the curse of the artist!

11/30/2007 - What updates?

Posted by Neneuche
Ok, my bad. I sowy.
I haven't even been that busy. I've just been lazy and relieved. First order of business, my cat is all better. He has a genetic disese and it can't be cured but it is treatable and he can still have a good 3-4-5 years ahead. He's just like before except he sleeps a little more, runs a lot less and is a lot more affectionate.
Alos I'm doing another book cover.
Totaly different strory.
The other is out tough, so I am allowed to pimp my art, tough the illustration was badly cropped. I'll post the whole thing when I'm sober.
:P
I have so much christmass shopping to get done!
GRAH!

So...  yeah...  'Been a while, hasn't it?  ;)  I've been sitting here trying to come up with a funny reason why i haven't posted anything in 4 billion years, ..but then i figured that's exactly what you'd all expect.  As if coming here with kitties wasn't predictable enough  =P

Here's something you may not be expecting, though:  i have uploaded 2 RARE pencil tests from the Iron Giant.  You'll want to check those out before WB tells me to take 'em down.

10/28/2007 - Lego

Posted by Neneuche
Here's my cat. His  name is Lego and I love him so much.
Here, he's hidding in the sheets I am removing to put in the wash.

He became suddenly sick Thursday. Not eating, vomiting and breathing strangely. The vet said it was probably pulmonary but then he said the x-rays showed no problem and they reffered us to a better equiped place. There, they said the x-rays DID show a problem and he was probably experiencing liquid on his lungs due to heart failure. I cried a lot. He was between life and death last night but this morning, he's better and there is hope yet. If he survives tough, he'll have to be medicated for the rest of his life, just like a person. This is gonna cost us a bundle and we'll probably have an imaginary Christmas this year. I feel kind of bad that I am paying so much for a cat while there are starving homeless people and sick children. But I would feel terrible if I just said " Oh, this is too exepensive, let's just let him die." He's a member of our family and he loves us with such honesty and no conditions; I couldn't let him go without a fight. He's not out of the woods yet but he's better and that's the best we could hope for.
He cost me so much already from all his urinary infections and special food that he needs. It's probably the most expensive stray cat in the universe. Lucky he's so fucking adorabe.
"YAY! Imagination Christmas!"

10/9/2007 - Happy fun crazy too little updates time!! ^_^

Posted by Neneuche
I've been quite a bad panda these past week and have not updated this blog enough.
Well, nothing really eventful happened. My new job is OK I guess. Not too different than the previous one except I get paid more and have better hours. But I miss my old buddies even if I have some new ones and some old ones already worked there wen I joined.
You know who you are!
:)
I changed birth-control pill in hope that my skin will clear up a little. But I have had no results as of yet. This pill is supposed to help with skin breakouts... no so much. The pamphlet says it might take up to 3 months... ew. I hate having zits at my age! And not little ones; big painful ones that take weeks to fully go away.  Anyways, the new pill is making me retain water and I feel like a contestant on "The Biggest Loser".
It's a well spread stereotype that most black men like a girl with "humps in the back and in the front". So should I take it that I'm overweight if a random black man asks for my phone number in the metro?  I mean, he looked nice and all and was not insistent when I told him I had a boyfriend, but I didn't feel attractive at all that day. And that he thought I was hot didn't really cheer me up because of that preconception that he probably likes some cushin for the pushin. Maybe I am wrong and I hope that it's not racist for me to have thought that, but I still felt pretty lame.
On a lighter note, my friend and I got asked for ID last Friday. We're 9 years over drinking age, so we took it as a compliment. Maybe he thought we were young because of my horrible zit.  It was funny.
Here's something I drew at the local Dr. Sketchy. I have more but hey look like shiiiiiiiiiiiiiii.
This took about 5 minutes I think.

Hey Drawingboard pals! Ariel and I got married on Saturday!

We're out on Oahu now. Below is a doodle I did while looking out the window of the little rental condo where we're staying. Click to see bigger (and be taken to our flickr page) I don't have a whole lot of drawing done, but I'll try to find time to do more.

Also, I like this picture. (Note the t-shirt)
