Reality Shift

4/4/2006 - Popcorn, games and ideas that won't go away

Remember that popcorn cartoon I did not too long ago? I got my first part of the payment: a big huuuuuuuge tin of it, cheddar cheese and blue cheese flavoured. Usually not a big fan of popcorn, but *wow*, this one is really good.

Drawing wise: finished a short ten page story, need to add some colours. More details later on. No, that one is not for Flight or for self-publishing.

Currently playing Kingdom Hearts 2 on PS2...I shouldn't be playing at all, as it eats precious drawing time, but I can't help it! Auron (bad @$$ swordsman from Final Fantasy X) is in it! Oh, and there's a level in B&W, a Pirates of the Carribean one, I mean...how could I resist!!

Couldn't help myself, did a couple of quick sketches of Auron on the corner of a page at work (from memory).

Not too long ago, on another forum, someone mentionned wanting to do a christian anthology . Being more of an agnostic, I probably would have been kicked out with the idea that flashed through my mind:

Imagine the time, about 150 C.E.

A rich man decides to hire a professional copyist to make copies of sacred texts (now guess which ones). That copyist is not of the same religion as the rich man, but that is fine for him: he wants someone that will copy exactly the text, not someone who may be tempted to change or dispute anything.

The copyist, a good professional who prides himself in never having made a mistake, sets to work.

Problems arise when the rich man and his brother start to argue the meaning of parts of the text, and both slily try to have changes made. The copyist tries to keep them away from his work, and refuse to do any new writing or editing. He is a copyist, and that's all he'll do. With his failing sight, this would probably be the last contract he'll ever do, and he wants to do it right...not gonna happen.

That's the basic storyline. I don't think I'll ever have the time to illustrate it, not in the near future anyway.

First sketches of the characters, the copyist then the brothers:

I actually think that is a very awsome story idea. It says so much about humans and religion and the single texts that they base their blind faith upon stating that they are the only absolute "truth" (when really there is so much missing from them and have been edited heavily).

I think you should totally do this story anyway.

oh and I love your rendition of auron
