3/13/2007 - THE COVER IS SEMI-FINISHED!

It's about time I post something new onto the Legendary blog, and I can only hope that everyone has not forgotten about it! It is coming soon! We've had a few hiccups, but it is finally starting to wrap up. I am still waiting on two stories ( ahem...Rick Cortes...Kirk Manley) whom I really didn't feel like throwing out the names, but I hope that helps them get a little fire under them and finish the stuff up!

The date for publication will probably be sometime around FALL 2007, although I will be posting the official date when that becomes known to me.

This has been a very exhausting endeavor of editing an anthology that is well over 100 pages, and it has been a lot of work; but I can let you all know that it'll be well worth the wait. I guess the new 'wait and see' moment will be while we wait on Master Euan to throw on some brilliant colorwork onto this already masterfully drawn cover by Phil Hester.

Time for me to go back to editing and such!

1/8/2007 - City Of Gold- Near Finished pages

Hey All! I haven't posted anything new here in some time, but I'm pleased to finally be able to show some almost-finished pages! I need to do some tweaking as far as page dimensions go to get them fitting comfortably and I definitely plan to go over the dodgy placeholder dialogue and fix it up, but with that in mind here they are: Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting Photobucket - Video and Image HostingPhotobucket - Video and Image HostingPhotobucket - Video and Image Hosting Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting Thanks for looking! 1/5/2007 - HATUPATU and KURANGAITUKU page 3, FINAL!!!

Here is the final for page 3 of my story. Not much else to say, other than this is probably the page I am happiest with so far, and I guess you can say that with each previous page, which is a good sign. It seems as if with every COMIC PROJECT I have been involved with, that there is always a page where I am just not happy with it at all. Just a page that I am happy it is done, but not happy with the outcome. It is different with this story. At first I just wanted to post a couple pages, and just get on with my creative life and start up the next project. Now it is like, "do I want to post the entire thing?".

Often times I have come up to the drawingboard forums, hoping for people just to go insane over what I have 'accomplished', even though I am no where close to the level of some of the people who post here. But honestly, I don't care that I am not as good as Francesco or Euan or Cheeks. I am happy with what I am doing, and I am happy that I am learning with each and every page that I am doing. At the end of this project, I will be at a different level than what I started...and that is exciting to me!

But with every high note comes a low note. I realized when gathering all the artists for this project that a couple contributors would get too busy for this. It's a real heartbreak, and I realize this not because maybe the book could of sold better with the person who decided to drop out, but because I know the people who are doing work for this anthology are putting a lot into this book. It shows with every person contributing, and part of me just wants to stand up and applaud the efforts of the others and in some form hope that this little anthology will come together at the end of this upcoming "chaos" known as the ever-looming deadline.

It will happen, and I for one can guarantee that it might not be the 'GREATEST' anthology out there, but it'll be some of the greatest work from the contributors inside. So when this comes out, it might not be at the level of FLIGHT, 24seven or any of those other anthologies. It'll be Legendary. It'll be it's own thing, and it'll breathe and evolve into a beautiful thing in the coming years, and that gets me even more excited.

1/1/2007 - HATUPATU and KURANGAITUKU page 2, FINAL!!!

Hoping that everyone had a pleasant New Years. My new years was a fun little "winter storm warning", but fortunately it didn't stop me from finishing this!...

Two done, twelve to go. Will I make it? Who knows? Plagued by illness, bad weather and a sometimes slow computer doesn't help much, but I make the most out of what I have at that point in time.

I should be e-mailing EVERYONE involved on the anthology the next couple days. The e-mail will be regarding: exact format/size pages I will need, other stuff I will need and just a little 'verification' of page count and story title so I can work up the contents page for this puppy and get it to the next stage.

Hope everyone had a great holiday, and I look forward to seeing everyone's submission within the month!

The clock is ticking...

12/28/2006 - Jackalope page 6

Hey everyone, just another quick update.  Here is page 6.  Not sure about panel 5 bleeding all the way up like that (it goes to the edge of the top, side and bottom bleed), what do you guys think?  I only have a couple pages left to go but I won't have another page up for about a week now.  Nice to see all the new posts too!  They are looking great.

Take care,
Mike

12/28/2006 - HATUPATU and KURANGAITUKU page 1, FINAL!!!

Here it is! The final (or close to) version of the first page in the story. Everything is moving pretty swiftly now that I am comfortable with exactly what I want to do with the pages digitally.

Thank you to those who are making use of the blog, and really pushing the bar as far as the level of this anthology. The success of this anthology will be because of the effort you are putting into your stories.

Hope everyone had a merry christmas and I'll be sure to post more of the story as it gets finished!

12/27/2006 - Jackalope page 5

Hey guys, I hope you all had a great Christmas holiday!
Here is just another quick update of my Jackalope story with page 5 here.  This time I threw the speech bubbles in just to see how it looked.  Anyways, I really hope to see some more of the other entries of some samples of the other stories that are going into this.  I hope not everyone is as far behind as me.

Take care,
Mike

12/23/2006 - More pages yet!

Well, it's the 23rd of December and I am getting ready for some very good meals with family and friends.  Today I finished off another page which puts me at the halfway coloring mark.  I will keep this quick so that you can get a quick look and then back to your pre-Christmas last minute activities.  These are pages 3 and 4.  I didn't include the text yet as I am still wondering what acceptable font sizes are for comics, so if you have the lowdown on that I would love to know.  Also neither of these pages have the "yellow dusty screen" over them.  Still might add it in the end, love to know your thoughts on it as well.  I find it tones the whites down mostly.  Ok take care.

I wish you all a Merry Christmas!

Mike

12/17/2006 - More Jackalope Updates - Page 1 and 2 mostly done.

Hey again everyone!  I still have a few questions in there and on the blog to be answered, if you guys have a chance.

So here are the finished versions of pages 1 and 2 so far.  I should say "close to finished" really though as I will take another pass or two at them if I have time at the end.

Wondering what you guys think of the lines because I used Kazu's tutorial to get them really black and solid enough to use the bucket.  I just worried that they got a little unrealistic looking.  Kazu knows his stuff though and maybe I am just talking nonsence.

Also, if you guys like the filter or not.  Let me know because you guys will probably be the jury on this one.

12/11/2006 - Little Red Story Breakdowns

Well the roughs for Little Red ended up coming out to 14 pages. However, the last page is pretty cramped so I think i will have to add one more page at the end to wrap it up a little neater. Here are the page breakdowns. They are reduced, they're actually created at aprox 8x10. Im starting the finished pencils now. I will probably color over the pencils and not ink to save time. I plan to digitally letter.

Boy that extension sure is going to help, but its still looking pretty daunting at this point AAAAHHHHH! LOL .

Peace

KM

12/10/2006 - HATUPATU and KURANGAITUKU page 11, inks and ink washes

Here is page 11 of the story, just to give you an idea of what stage all the pages are currently in. I am pretty happy with the outcome, although it took longer than I thought it would. The next stages of the story will all be digital, and it should produce some small, but significant changes to the page (along with the fact that it'll be colored and their will be text).

Not much to say now, except that I will be pretty busy over the course of the week finishing the first step for the Smudge Painting technique. I may (or may not) post some of the pages when they are done in that stage, depending on how much time I have on my hands. I will however try to post the majority, if not all, of the story when completely finished.

Thanks for checking out the blog, and I hope you enjoy the rest of the book!
